It is childish to think the hard working Poles who immigrated into the UK will forgive you your racism.

Where did I miss UKRepublican’s assertion [in the discussion] that native Britons were genetically superior to Poles?

They ended up with a net gain of 4 (or 3 if you count their by-election gain which they gave back). They had hoped for a lot more but then it seemed like they would probably nearly get wiped out.

They gained a few in Scotland, beat a few Tories in England, lost their only seat in Wales, lost Clegg.

And Farron almost lost, to a Tory, it was thought that the Tories would have to be doing really well for him to be in danger.

With a small party gaining and losing a small number of seats, it’s hard to predict and not very meaningful.

Hard to predict in general how they will do. They hit their high mark in 2005 which saw a mediocre reelection to to a third term for Blair, lost a few in 2010 as fear of Tories winning probably led to less votes for them, were decimated in 2010, with their former coalition partner taking most of their English seats.

They would have gained a few more this time but Labour enthusiasm led to less anti-conservative tactical voting.

Fact worth noting, very much worth noting actually.

The Tories got 42.4%, 5.5% MORE than the last election.

By comparison Thatcher got

43.9% in 1979

42.4% (yes exactly the same as May) in 1983 (GAINED seats despite the slight decline) so on the exact same vote share as May she won almost 400 seats

42.2% in 1987

Major got 41.9% in 1992

So why no majority? Cause the more important number is the margin between the Tories and Labour

1979 it was 7 points

1983 it was 14.8 points (Labour barely came in 2nd place with the 2 predecessor parties to the Lib dems in alliance with each other got a quarter of the vote)

1987 it was 11.4 points

1992 (narrow Tory majority) it was 7.5 points

In 2015 it was 6.6 points.

This time? It was 2.4 points. Labour got 40% even, nearly 10 points better than last time.

So it’s not that the Tories didn’t do well enough, it’s that Labour did too well.

Not enough third party vote taken from Labour, the Lib dems, despite gaining 4 seats, LOST half a percentage point in total votes.

Labour’s 40% is a higher share than Blair got in winning a majority in 2005.

Labour LEAVE voters who went UKIP last time falling for Corbyn’s BS is the most notable problem here. Those voters enabled Cameron to win a majority, and enabled Corybn to prevent May from winning a majority.

If Corbyn becomes PM before brexit is done he will do as soft a brexit as possible or else call a SECOND REFERENDUM like the Lib dems want (and since it would certainly be a minority government with Lib Dem and SNP help.....)

I don’t know anything about that but it’s probably true that ONE guy proposed it. There seem to be some serious religious conservatives in the party.

But clearly that’s a fringe position and only a small number of people in or out of the DUP would be in favor of something so silly and oppressive.

Of course enemies of the DUP would make a big deal out of it just like democrats make a big deal when lone Republicans say something stupid.

Irish nationalists, in NI and the Republic, just plain suck. I would vote DUP, to hell with Catholic v. Protestant irrelevancy.

I also sure as hell would not want to be part of the Republic of Ireland if lived in NI, better to stick with the UK than be part of that nightmare.

Almost makes me want to wear orange on St. Paddy’s day and I’m 1/8 Irish.

The Tories have become such a squishy, leftist bunch of twats that voting for Lord Buckethead seems entirely palatable.

Very true, but I don't see Labour taking over the PM.

The DUP may actually move the Tories to the Right.

Hopefully, Farage will be able to bring back UKIP voters and rebuild the Party.

On this, we'll have to agree to disagree. Culturally, the Republic of Ireland is certainly to the right of the United Kingdom (for example, abortion is flat out illegal in the nation of Ireland, whereas its perfectly acceptable in the UK, and even the so-called "Conservative" Party leaders won't restrict it). Part of it is a cultural divide and religious influence is certainly a factor as well -- the Catholic Church as a whole is well to the right of the sleazy Church of England, the "official" religion of the UK.

The fact "Catholic" Sinn Fein is a bunch of marxist atheists/closet terrorists (who I am delighted to see lose, BTW) and the DUP is a decent, reliable conservative party (certainly to the right of what passes for "Conservative" in the UK) won't change the external factors being the opposite. It reminds me a bit of the post-Civil War era south voting for the likes of Woodrow Wilson, whereas Vermont (currently a socialist hippie paradise) being Calvin Coolidge country at the time).

Gun to the head, if I HAD to vote for a political party in Northern Ireland, I'd vote DUP, but I sure as heck wouldn't be happy about it. I don't want a government that loves the monarchy, loves being England's b----, and loves that Henry VII started a phony church so he could chop off his wife's head, and the aforementioned phony church now gets special rights and privileges while Catholics are treated as second class citizens.

Disclaimer: I do have Irish ancestry on both sides of my family. But my dad's side is culturally much more German and my mom's side is much more Italian.

Given the options in most of the UK, my ideal outcome in many of the races would be that the Official Monster Raving Loony Party won a majority.

A plague on both your houses, "Tories" and "Labour"

I think it’s silly the Church of England is still established, and surprising given how secular the UK is now.

But I don’t really see how it would impact your life if you lived there, it’s of symbolic importance only.

And I don’t see how or in what way Catholics are/could be “oppressed” in today’s NI.

The Church of England is more secular and debauched than the UK is.

He was part of a Mayoral delegation to the USSR the day after his marriage, took his new wife and ironically called it their honeymoon. Below is a very complete story of his life. He actually had several favorable votes, from the FR perspective, on gun issues.

Have fun with your crumbling nazi European empire.

We will deal with our poles and I’m sure they will be very happy.

Why must a united Europe be a “Nazi European Empire”?

Europe is much more than just Germans. But what’s up with those teutonic beasts? After all Germans simply want to earn money. They have no interest in gassing jews, in bombing Brits or in slaughtering Russians anymore. The chancellor of Germany is also not an Austrian painter of postcards. Germans produce goods of good quality and are interested in using European infrastructure to build up European friendship. If Britain does not want to be a friend it is perfectly okay for them. Of course it is unfortunate if your country is not part of a bigger Europe and will drop behind in economics and relationships, but this will not have a big impact on Germany.

Has anybody European tried to prevent the Brexit after it was clear that a majority of Britons are in favour of it?

No nazism.

Of course there is no place for you anymore on our own markets if not playing with our rules. But this has absolutely nothing to do with nazism. Your people wanted custom duties and new trading partners. This is what they get.

Why are you on this site, it’s a conservative website?

We don’t want the Nazi superstate and we have proudly rejected it.

As I already said, if you try punitive action against the U.K., you
Are going to fail.

Most likely debt ridden Europe is already finished. Thank god.

Conservative means to defend the interests of ones home country. This is what we German conservatives did. The problem with British conservatives is that they always put their personal interest over the interest of the country. This is why the UK is expendable today. A deindustrialized country with a stock exchange (the treasonable bankers are starting to move from London to Frankfurt already). Let’s see if we should let them in in the long run. Anyway - the United Kingdom isn’t a very impressive country in economic terms.

We will not try punitive action. You punished yourself since you exit the most prosperous market on earth. It is your very own problem if you mutate into an agrarian state with a few fishermen.

You are not a conservative, you support a nazi empire. You have allowed your country to be raped quite literally.

Your empire is collapsing and we will prosper outside of it. The fact is the drunk EU knows it is not worth their while to take punitive action as it will rebound on them.

Our economy has been doing just fine, and free from the chains of the nazi empire we will prosper even more. Don’t worry, you will too be free in the near future.
