Michigan House passes bills allowing concealed pistol carry without a license

LANSING, MI -- Michiganders would no longer need a concealed pistol license to carry a concealed pistol under legislation approved by the Michigan House of Representatives on Wednesday.

House bills 4416 through 4419 strike the requirement that a Michigander have a license to carry a concealed weapons. People banned from possessing firearms would be banned from carrying them as well. The bills also reduce penalties for certain infractions relating to carrying a pistol without proper identification or disclosure as well.

Rep. Michele Hoitenga, R-Manton, is a sponsor of one of the bills. She and other sponsors refer to the bills as "constitutional carry" in reference to the second amendment enshrining the right to bear arms.

"People who can legally own a gun should have every right to carry a concealed pistol without jumping through bureaucratic hoops and landing on a list," Hoitenga said.

I understand your pain. New York has become such a disaster of a state.

Michigan (and alas, Ohio) still has a fighting chance........

You can come when you admit the better team lost last year.

Could be. I believe the article says the chance of it becoming law was next to impossible.

No, having an EBT disqualifies you.

We don’t want the Antifa folks getting them.

PS I still don’t have any real desire to do so, just wondering.
You folks are free to visit us and stock up on guns, liquor and illegal fireworks.

Why don’t we drop needing a license to drive a car?

Certainly. Because the right to drive a car is written into the Constitution.

I’m sure the jihadists in Dearborn will be happy also.

I am sure Jihadists are really good about complying with local gun laws. /sarc

Like they don't do that anyway. Non Sharia laws are to be ignored.

Kellog? Pfffft. Their battle cry may be from Antonio the Tiger.

....Jones questioned why the right to carry a weapon should override the right of people to live their lives and feel secure....

Jones is from Inkster. Inkster's old nickname is "Little Saigon" and it's not due to a Vietnamese population. I can tell you right now that a lot of people in Inkster don't feel secure.

Downtown's actually cleaned up its act a bit.

Going east of the Chrysler or West of the Lodge is another matter.

I'm pretty sure Indiana and Michigan have reciprocity.

CPLs would be optional if it passes. In order to pass, this still has to get past the Senate and Governor RINO Rick Snyder.

The number one problem in my mind without the background check is that it opens the door to the sale of guns on the street to anyone that can hold it. I’m a firm 2nd amendment believer but I also think I have enough common sense to understand that not everyone on the street should have the opportunity to get a gun and carry it concealed.

Too many people running amuk with nothing more between their ears than open range. You don’t give a loaded gun to a child. And opening up the carry with no possible means of stopping it without actual forcing the owner to carry a bill of sale, and confronting the carrier, doesn’t separate the responsible from the nut. And that’s all they have without actually witnessing someone unlawfully using it. Most criminals don’t call 911 before they break the law and wait there for the heat.
