Yes but there is not a strong information he was a confidant. The quote sounds to me like he was reaching across an aisle.

According to the Washingtonian, Wray approached Comey at the Justice Department headquarters and said, “Look, I don’t know what’s going on, but before you guys all pull the rip cords, please give me a heads up so I can jump with you.”

Hugh Hewitt is a GOPe squish.

True ... but he's been solidly supportive of President Trump the few times I've heard him recently ...

He’s not a DC/NYC guy. He has experience investigating the Clintons. Wirjed in orivate firm, which is good.

I had heard Alan Dershowitz was in final group—a wow kinda guy.

That Politico narrative of history is very interesting, thanks for the link. I enjoyed the takes on Mueller's character and methods, and laughed at the author's conclusion that Trump fears (or should be afraid of) Mueller's microscope.

The Gonzalez/Ashcroft confrontation was public at the time, if I recall correctly. I'm no fan of Ashcroft, he;s a politician first, and weak. I detest Gonzalez.

I find the NSA and 4th amendment issue interesting in the long run. It's my belief that the government has a distrust of the people, almost to the point of paranoia; and the government is extremely defensive of its "value" to the public. The people in government fancy themselves indispensable, the keepers of order, betters, etc. And so, snooping to protect the sheep is justified - meanwhile importing hoards of wolves to keep the flock appropriately agitated. This justifies increasing the power of the sheepdog protector.

There is a substantial amount of ink and effort wrapped up in maintaining the illusion of "government restraint" in the age of electronic communication. FISA, FISC, many man court cases (inevitably ending with wither state secret dismissal, or a finding of government over-reach). Great gig for those who decide it's their cup of tea. It's a cottage industry.

The public has grown ‘awareness’, not acceptance.

Revolts and revolutions take decades in the making. We’re just getting started.

Sounds like the problem with Stellar Wind was the open-source internet DB called Able Danger that HRC and all RATS fought tooth and nail because it was snagging their crimes.

Wray was involved with Stellar Wind as it pertains to discovery obligations...and more.

I don’t agree with your characterization of giving up his job was just reaching across the aisle ...but it might have been.

I just don’t think so.

Nice, perhaps a full presser and introduction and some comments from the nominee tomorrow during Comey’s grandstanding.

That story spells out collusion between Mueller and Comey. And we all just watch this government tell us we can’t have the man we elected as President. If they ever succeed in bringing Trump down, it’s over.

Left is hitting Wray over Plame ...saying he was giving updates to Ashcroft.

That is really an interesting but bizarre article. Reassuring about Mueller’s character and a lot of context on Mueller’s time at the FBI but the writer tries to characterize Mueller’s reputation for dogged integrity as something the Trump White House should be “very afraid of” when I expect that is the very reason Mueller was chosen.

Politico betrays itself as floridly partisan and very desperate, unsurprisingly.

I don't foresee any revolution because the government is snooping. My point of view is just that the legal checks and balances that restrain snooping aren't as effective as claimed, and the system tends to "creep" over time.

Same idea applies to Fedgov as a whole. Over time it's creeped from a small part of daily life and drain on the public resource, to an uncontrollable and ravenous parasite.

“He has absolute integrity and honesty, and I think that the president certainly would not be making a mistake if he asked Chris Wray to be FBI director,” Christie said.
