President Donald Trump on Thursday lectured a group of leaders from member countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization over not contributing their "fair share" in defense spending.
Standing beside Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Trump blasted the nearly two-dozen member countries that have not met their "financial obligations" to increase defense spending to 2% of GDP.
This is not fair to the people and taxpayers of the United States, and many of these nations owe massive amounts of money from past years," said as the other leaders stood in awkward silence.
"We should recognize that with these chronic underpayments and growing threats, even 2% of GDP is insufficient to closing gaps in modernizing readiness and the size of forces. We have to make up for the many years lost," he said.
Trump noted that 23 of the 28 NATO members have still not met the 2% commitment, arguing that the alliance would have had an additional $119 billion "for our collective defense" last year if the quota had been met.
"If NATO countries made their full and complete contributions, then NATO would be even stronger than it is today, especially from the threat of terrorism," Trump said.

There’s a GIF making the rounds of social media of Trump pushes to the front of a line of the NATO leaders — like a boss!
Nobody in Europe cares.

“I don’t give anyone hell. I just tell them the truth and they think it’s hell.” HST
It’s about 20 trillion dollars late, but tell them President Trump.
This is not fair to the people and taxpayers of the United States, and many of these nations owe massive amounts of money from past years,” said as the other selfish, elitist, corrupt parasites stood in awkward silence.”
Fixed it.
Good news ping!
Why should US taxpayers support all these NATO countries that promote un-vetted mass migration, jeopardizing the safety and culture of their people?
If your country insists on becoming a progressive globalist player in some NWO scheme, you are on your own.
He is RIGHT. WE, the taxpayers get SCREWED by the former arrangement while the gangsters and thieves in the Swamps of Washington D.C. and their buddies make a fortune in trade deals with these socialist parasites. If they had to spend as much proportionately of their budgets in defense as we do, they would have less to waste on the kinds of mindless social programs which our liberals seek to emulate and are ruining their economic base.
We bear the cost of defending THEM, and they spend their money on social programs for invading Islamist polygamists who are destroying their culture.
If they wont defend themselves, we shouldn't even worry about them.
So does anyone have a graphic that shows who’s paid what as regards NATO?
I know that since the payments are a percent of the member country’s GDP, we’re still on the hook, percentage-sise, for most of the bill. Good on Trump for calling these freeloading turds out to their collective faces.
For the last 8 years, every time Islamists attacked innocent people, Obama would come out and lecture me that I needed to give up my means of self defense because I was a dirty, racist, Islamaphobe kafir who deserves to be attacked. About time an American president lectured somebody other than me.
Meanwhile, NATO “leaders” navel gaze in wonderment from inside their 1.23 Billion dollar environmentally friendly palace and cash those US Taxpayer checks.
