LEE COUNTY, Fla. - If you're a concealed weapon permit holder, your information could be in danger after a statewide hack.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says the data breach affects more than 16,000 people and some social security numbers may be at risk.
"It's a little nerve-racking to know that it happened here in Florida," said Evelyn Greenway.
Officials say people with concealed weapons licenses who renewed online may have had their names accessed. An additional 469 others have been notified their social security numbers may have been hacked.
"Somebody knows this house has weapons in it; burglars might look at that as a target," said Ronald Michalkewicz.
The state says the breach occurred through the online payment system, but the hackers didn't obtain financial information.
Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, who's running for governor in 2018, has ordered a comprehensive review of the department's cybersecurity systems.
Permit holders who may have been affected are being told to call 1-800-350-1119 for assistance.

Time to push for “Constitutional Carry” in Florida so that this kind of thing doesn’t happen again.
Governments, all of them, should be held accountable when their sloppy practices lead to any problems resulting from a data breach. I have an SSN and disclose it ONLY when required by gov’t. I’m a Floridian and spitting mad. Heads should roll.

“Constitutional Carry” IS THE ANSWER!
I just called the 800 number and spoke to a young lady who said that the only information they got was names. No SSNs or CC information was compromised. Since CCW names are public record in Florida, this is much ado about nothing.
You guys keep pushing for this and you may lose our traditional understanding of the 2nd, altogether.

Explain, please. I don’t follow at all.
Please give definitions, as you understand them, of “constitutional carry” and “traditional understanding of the 2nd” and why that “understanding” might be lost.
Rather that quibble about definitions, which won't mean a hill of beans in this case, I will simply point out the following:
1) No one can argue the PROFOUND impact women have had on American governance since the 19 Amendment.
2) Women had no official, direct influence on the framing of the Constitution.
3) Women comprise MORE than 50% of the vote.
From that, I conclude rubbing the noses of those who are "scared of guns" in endless citations of the exact text of the 2nd Amendment while we wave our guns around "just so they'll get used to it" runs the very real risk of galvanizing a "Prohibition" mindset in women; if for no other reason than them "not being consulted" when the "hallowed words" of the 2nd Amendment were transferred from heaven to paper...
Now don't let my "tongue in cheek" approach put you off to the fact that I am deader than "dead serious" about my guns. But I'm more than happy to carry a little card in my wallet "allowing" me to carry a big gun under my jacket if it means it won't occur to a bunch of bliss-ninnies they can get together and "show me" the error of my patriarchal, bourgeois, reactionary ways.....

Silliness. Women influence, even control, their menfolk directly and constantly, and have been doing so since the Garden of Eden. The Constitution and amendments didn’t arise from smoke-filled backroom mancaves without womens’ significant input. And my wife told me it’s ok to say that.

Open Carry isn’t waving guns around in order to desensitize the gun-scared, and quoting the Constitution to the Constitution-ignorant public, and women in particular, won’t make women go all single-issue anti-gun in order to change the Constitution. They’ll still vote their conscience (and pocket book) in as complex a manner as all other voters.
My piece of paper in my pocket is not so I can carry concealed, it’s so I won’t be charged with a felony concealed possession if something goes wrong (my fault or others’) that exposes, with or without my permission, my carrying. Legal Open Carry would eliminate that specific tacked-on charge by zealous anti-gun prosecutors (a bigger and more immediate worry than women voting en bloc to eliminate the 2A).
Then neither you nor your wife know anything about the history of the Constitution.
Smoke-filled backroom mancaves: no. Committee meetings held in the environs of Philadelphia, attended by state delegations that had to arrive by horse after many days in the saddle: yes.
If you can find ANY quote from ANY of the voluminous writings of the framers crediting their "womenfolk" with ANY significant contribution to their work on the Constitution, I'd love to see it.
