Not only do I think you're correct, but your assessment is borne out by Pope Pius XII's test that he laid out in the 1950s/which I posted. Indeed, the early Saints up to many of those in modern times, have spoken of the "just war" and that men of goodwill have a duty to stand up to evil, even if it means death to others.

While not directly tied to war, there was an outstanding pro-2nd Amendment essay in the early 1990s called A Nation of Cowards. In that essay, an 18th century sermon was quoted, stating:

"He that suffers his life to be taken from him by one that hath no authority for that purpose, when he might preserve it by defense, incurs the Guilt of self murder since God hath enjoined him to seek the continuance of his life, and Nature itself teaches every creature to defend itself."

I know there are several in the Church who believe strongly that life is worth defending, and who are not upset at things like 'mother' or even 'Little Boy.' Indeed, there is a story about Fr. George Rutler, a great priest in NYC (who I personally heard speak on the importance of fighting evil, specifically on the Siege of Vienna) meeting with then-candidate Trump. We can only hope and pray that men of wisdom and good counsel keep championing good deeds in the face of evil, even when such deeds may offend modernist sensibilities.
