GLOBAL WARMING: Eating INSECTS 'could help tackle climate change'

Replacing half of the meat eaten worldwide with crickets and mealworms would cut farmland use by a third, substantially reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, researchers say.

While consumers' reluctance to eat insects may limit their consumption, even a small increase would bring benefits, the team says.

This could potentially be achieved by using insects as ingredients in some pre-packaged foods.

Researchers say that replacing meat with crickets and mealworms could help tackle climate change.

Using data collected primarily by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, scientists compared the environmental impacts of conventional meat production with those of alternative sources of food.

It is the first study to do so.

They said it would cut farmland use which would reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.

Researchers at the University of Edinburgh and Scotland's Rural College considered a scenario in which half of the current mix of animal products is replaced by insects, lab-grown meat or imitation meat.

Why don’t these assholes lead the charge? Let’s see them lead by eating plates of dead bugs (or live ones if they prefer).

Let’s see Obama, Al Gore and DeCaprio eat a bowl full of insects first.

Bill Nye and planned parenthood want us to eat babies. It’s a more direct solution.

A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift

A Modest Proposal For preventing the Children of Poor People From being a Burthen to Their Parents or Country, and For making them Beneficial to the Publick.

Commonly referred to as A Modest Proposal, is a satirical essay written by Jonathan Swift in 1729.

Swift suggests that the impoverished Irish might ease their economic troubles by selling their children as food for rich gentlemen and ladies.

I may listen to them as well after 6 months of a shrub and insect diet, for comedy relief.

I'm ok with mudbugs; let somebody else break ground via cricket festivals or dragonfly gumbo for a couple of years and I might join the party at that point.

If only the people in Biblical times had eaten all those locusts, they could have avoided so many problems. Or not.

Our 6 cat keep the insect and wiggly population down in our and surrounding yards. It saves on store bought cat food.

Crickets remind me way too much of roaches. They are near relatives.

I watch Andrew Zimmern on TV and he will eat any insect including dung beetles. The only insect he ever ate that I would be willing to try are some kind of giant pink thorn-mimicking sap-sucking critter from Madagascar, that you have to go through a skin-welting grass to get at.

What they eat is clean, and they taste something like sweet shellfish I think. But I’m not going to Madasgascar and shredding my skin, and there aren’t any exports.

Sounds like the insect/warming science is settled. Can’t wait to see the menu for Gore’s next dinner party. After all, global warming is serious and we all need to do our part. Gore will no doubt set an example. /s
