to start a TV news network?
Hannity, along with Greta and O’Reilly, had clauses in their contracts allowing them to leave if there was a change in management at Fox News. Greta exercised hers and departed last fall. I’ve heard that she believed Roger Ailes and others would quickly launch a new channel and she would be part of the prime time line-up. Unfortunately, the upstart network failed to materialize and she signed with MSNBC.
This is beginning to look like 1996 all over again. Ailes had the vision; Murdoch had the money and there was a plethora of talent that was ready for the national level. This time around, the prospective talent (and behind-the-scenes management) is much more experienced and ready to hit the ground running. All that’s needed are investors willing to lose big money for the first year or so, and access to enough cable homes to establish a foundation and provide the initial audience.
As someone once observed, “nothing succeeds like an idea whose time has come.” With the younger Murdochs determined to wreck Fox News, a new conservative network could be very successful—and even faster than FNC was.
They ruined THE FIVE, such as it was.
First by bringing the horrid Bob Beckel back and then with this move to prime time.
And they need to shut Greg Gutfield up somehow.
He is insufferable.
Eric Bolling, the strongest personality after Hannity, has been consigned to a slow death as co-host of that new 5:00 PM show alongside those two twits, Katherine Timpf and Eboni K. Williams.
Eric could have easily moved into the 8:00 PM slot as O’Reilly’s replacement.
It was a bad omen when FOX hired Marie Harf-a-wit.
And another just as bad when they brought Bob Beckel back from drug rehab (or was it an insane asylum).
Did a search on Eboni Williams, and one site said she was born in 1970 and another said 1988...so that is a bit of an age difference...and for her to earn two college degrees and just be 28 is hard to believe..plus she was first on O’Reilly show in 1996..so do the math..I've always kind of liked her comments...but can't handle the twit from Greg Gutfield show, so only watched about 25 min. and turned it off..
Your correct, Eric should have been given the O’Reilly time slot, he filled in often for Bill..Fox is losing my support very fast...and I was truly addicted to FOX NEWS, and my two adult kids always made jokes of MOM and her addiction...Now they can't believe how easily I've over come that addiction..and it feels really good also...
CNN was set up by a journalism pro whose experience was in fast paced big city tv news. I knew the individual. News back then was run by the pros who all had biases but still based news on facts.
BOR was Jesse Waters' mentor. With BOR gone the dynamic is completely different. I'm sure Jesse is looking for a place to go when his contract is up or sooner if they want to release him from it with some kind of severance package. He's probably hoping one of the new conservative stations ends up being a good fit for him and maybe BOR. I can almost guarantee if Bill O. finds a home on another network; part of the deal will be to bring Jesse W. on when they can.
My gut tells me Bill O. isn't done yet and while he may only have a few more years in the business left; he wants to go out the right/his way.
FNC probably won't be shutting down but it will continue to move left and lose viewers like crazy because of the metrosexual murdoch boys who have no clue.
The only hiccup is FNC has deep pockets from making so much money for so many years, not counting the murdoch money, and going to a newer less successful and established station will likely not pay so well; at least not until they succeed if they do. For some the money is everything and for others who either already have plenty or don't feel it's the highest priority; a move to a new station will be much easier.
ExSpook, wouldn’t it be even more shocking to watch a news show about the news, not personalities? When CNN launched, it was excellent at providing news all day long. Journalists at that time were literate. That was 30 years ago and a more dumbed down populace is in charge. Literate, factual, no ax to grind (too obviously) would be a thing whose time has come.
CNN was HEAVEN to me at first. I was homesick for America and CNN international appeared on the scene. I had it on every chance I could.

FOX NEWS has been #1 for so long, they have gotten ‘kinda cocky’ (can I really say that!!) but it sure will be neat to see them drop down to TURD PLACE AND GIVE CNN a kick lower...

What ruined CNN (oddly enough) was the Persian Gulf War. Until then, it was—largely—a straight news operation, with most of the talent, producers and technical staff drawn from the ranks of local stations. In fact, about the “biggest names” on CNN in those days were Bernard Shaw and Don Farmer, who had been second and third-tier correspondents at CBS and ABC, respectively.
When CNN beat the broadcast networks with its coverage from Baghdad, it suddenly became part of the liberal news establishment. No longer derided as “chicken noodle news,” CNN began to act more like its well-established counterparts. A lot of the originals left, and were replaced by more retreads from the network. More “analytical journalism” (read: liberal opinion) than straight news. And it worked for a while, until much of CNN’s Middle America audience discovered Fox News.
Back in the day, when a major story broke outside New York or LA, it wasn’t unusual for CNN to simply carry the coverage of its local affiliate. I remember a night in the late 80s when an MD-80 crashed shortly after takeoff from Detroit, killing all onboard except a young girl. Instead of speculating from Atlanta or New York, CNN just picked up the feed from one of the Detroit stations (WXYZ or WDIV as I recall). The local coverage was excellent, because the reporters, producers and anchors knew the area and had the contacts to provide timely, factual information.
These days, a cable net might briefly air a live shot from a local station, especially if they have a helicopter on the scene. But the network reporters and anchors, along with their speculation, conjecture and bias, will be heard, no matter how clueless they area. Attention must be paid to the cable net talking heads.
