Trump is prepared: 'If there's a shutdown, there's a shutdown'

With less than 24 hours before the government runs out of money, precipitating a partial shutdown of services, President Donald Trump et the Democrats know that there are limits to what he and the Republican Congress will accept to keep the government operating.

Democrats have bee piling up conditions under which they would agree to a budget resolution that would fund the government through September 30. But the difficulty of the negotiations have forced Hill Republicans to offer a one week extension of funding to keep the government operating.

But if Democrats won't accept the stop gap measure, the president is prepared for a government shut down.

Reuters:

"We'll see what happens. If there's a shutdown, there's a shutdown," Trump told Reuters in an interview, adding that Democrats would be to blame if the federal government was left unfunded.

Congress has until 12:01 a.m. ET on Saturday to pass a bill to fund the government or face a shutdown, which would temporarily lay off hundreds of thousands of federal workers.

Republicans introduced a bill on Wednesday to fund government operations at current levels for one more week, giving them time to finish negotiations with Democrats on the plan for the rest of the fiscal year ending Sept. 30.

Trump said a shutdown would be a "very negative thing" but that his administration was prepared if it was necessary.

In a wide-ranging interview, he defended the one-page tax plan he unveiled on Wednesday from criticism that it would increase the U.S. deficit, saying better trade deals and economic growth would offset the costs.

"We will do trade deals that are going to make up for a tremendous amount of the deficit.

Chuck E Cheese ought to know that when DJT starts talking like this... it’s over for the Merry band of Dem leftists in the Senate, as the house has overwhelmingly passed the bill.

I don’t think Trump is being radical enough here. The Congress, Republicans and Democrats alike, are not willing to work with this President and they are not willing to take their cues from the American people in terms of the agenda. Trump needs to say, “I won’t sign a continuing resolution, pass a budget”. If the government shuts down, he needs to go golfing, or talk trade or whatever he can do while it’s shut down. Get on tv every day and urge Congress to pass a budget within the framework that they’ve outlined. Learn to get along guys, pass a budget, it’s your job!

What if President Trump shut down the Department of Education, the EPA, the Bureau of Land Management, BATFE (except for Class III approvals), foreign aid, refugee resettlement, reviews for foreign visas, and a whole bunch of other agencies that do nothing urgent (or perhaps not even useful)?

All those liberal “democrats” who have a “grandmother” on her “deathbed” back home in the old country better apply for their passports and visas now. LOL! Veterans can be cool, I don’t see Secretary Zinke blockading any war memorials so they can be held hostage by the “democrats” and their toads in the fake “media” so I see them remaining open.

Given Trumps popularity and common sense dealing directly with the public, I don’t think Slimey Schuster and Nutty Pelosi will be able to tag the next shutdown on the President

Even though the usual suspect RINOs may panic or otherwise side with nutty and slimy

Nor do I think Trump will arm the Park Service and send them out to blockade the monuments

Since when do libtards care about the deficit?

They racked up $20Trillion in debt under Ostupidass and never once complained.

There is no way to pay that off with MORE taxes, which will kill the economy even more. The only way is to stimulate the economy to grow- and lowering taxes will do that JUST LIKE THEY DID UNDER REAGAN.

I could give a rat’s rear end if the govt shuts down. Not really a shut down. Most of it stays open anyway.

Hold the line President Trump. Please, be a true statesman. Do not submit to blackmail and make all of those who tried pay for it later. No quarter after all of this.

Right there. That's the problem. The minority party - the losers, in this case - don't get to set ANY conditions. The GOP needs to make this clear. The leftists can either be the problem, or part of the GOP solution. That's just all there is to it.

BUT, we know how good the GOP is at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and I would expect nothing less than the GOP bending over and taking it up the tailpipe, all in the name of "bipartisanship". Incidentally, this is precisely what the GOP would do in the event of an Article V Convention, too. Be careful what you wish for.

Why do they always want to balance the tax side of the budget but never address the spending side?

This is the PERFECT opportunity to shut it down, and use DJT’s bully pulpit to demonstrate the unnecessary bloat of govt.

Unlike previous shutdowns, WE determine who’s essential and who’s not. Unlike Obie’s shutdown, police, fire, SocSec, military, even national monuments remain functioning, and most importantly, it’d become clear we don’t need 1/2 of the employees.

For those reasons, Dems don’t dare.

Thank God that idiot Jarvis isn't in charge of the Park Service anymore

He got the boot on January 20. Mike Reynolds is now the Director.
