How Conservative States Should Handle Academia
American Thinker.com ^ | April 27, 2017 | Bruce Walker

Conservatives need to use the political power already in their hands to begin a grassroots transformation of academia. The totalitarian exclusion of Ann Coulter from a state university in California is one reminder of the need for reform. The grotesque of politically correct "science" recently paraded around Earth Day is another.

In fact, the Orwellian control of academia by the left virtually guarantees that tens of millions of young Americans will not only lack knowledge – that can be remedied by study and reflection – but have instead noxious stews of pseudo-knowledge percolating out of their ears and guiding (or rather misguiding) their whole lives.

There is precious little conservatives can do in places like the People's Republic of California. The so-called "Berkeley Free Speech Movement" of the early 1960s was a fraud from beginning to end. Nearly all the faculty and university administration comprised people who were radically leftist, and it was only the method of protest (screaming obscenities) that bothered anyone.

Ann Coulter would have been as unwelcome then at Berkeley as she is today – something conservative commentators were noting all through the 1960s, when almost never was a commencement speaker at any university a prominent conservative, and nearly all the commencement speakers were leftists.

Here is the opening for conservatives both to dramatically improve academic thought in America and to ameliorate the horrific treatment given conservatives in public universities. Gallup shows that conservatives outnumber liberals in 44 of the 50 states and are outnumbered in only 4 of the fifty states.

Require each university to establish an alternative classical curriculum stripped of all the new “studies programs” open to all students.

RATS pound the drums for separation of “Church and State” (unless it’s Islam). Conservatives should pound the drums for a separation of “School and State”. If you have a bunch of people whose paycheck is dependent on a Government check you should not be surprised “The State Is Great!” kind of people are going to eventually take over (and they have!)

An unknown assailant fired seven rounds into the fourth floor where climatologist John Christy works over “Earth Day” weekend. Christy’s “crime” in the view of the totalitarian Left?

Christy testified before Congress that the magnitude of future warming on Earth is unlikely to be catastrophic. Christy is one of the keepers of the UAH (Univeristy of Alabama - Huntsville) temperature dataset, derived from satellite instruments. These cover over 90% of the Earth and measure temperatures from near the surface to high in the atmosphere. Unlike most “climate” “scientists”, Christy is familiar with the proper use of statistics.

Violence on universities is not just from Leftist hotbeds, although perhaps almost all universities in the U.S. in 2017 are Leftist hotbeds. Easy fix: Defund the Left, starting by removing all Federal support from universities. Start with student loans and the G.I. Bill. Give veterans cash instead and let the veterans decide where their money is best spent.

All student loans should be held by the university and placed in the teachers’ individual retirement funds. Only loans made to students taught by a particular teacher should be in that teacher’s retirement fund. Let teachers put pressure on the university on which students should be accepted, based on which students are most likely to repay their student loans.

Excellent article. Thanks.

“State governments in conservative states have the power to do this: State legislatures could provide funding for specific research purposes like exploring alternative explanations for global warming...”

True. State government have the power. Time to use it to bring patriots to campus.

Brilliant suggestion. “Only loans made to students taught by a particular teacher should be in that teacher’s retirement fund.” I second that motion.

I am convinced that 99% of the world’s problems have been theoretically solved by Americans and we just need the opportunity to start the solutions.

PLEASE God, from your lips to His ears.

It is an embarrassment, or should be, that no one knows what “classical education” was and what it meant to this fledgling country to get its sea legs.

An eleven year old Adams serves as secretary accompanying the adult to negotiate in France, right?

How many eleven year olds, today, could find France on a map?

Not a really realistic proposal.

What is needed, in each conservative run state/government, is a new and really professional “Kerner Commission” to deeply investigate both leftist violence on campuses, outside agitators on campus, anti-Semitism on campus, and Marxist professors and other biased leftists who fail to teach a course in a fact-based, objective manner. Elective courses would be exempt.

Retired teachers, law enforcement professionals from the FBI on down, a few military people, some clergy, and some decent retired newspaper reporters should make up most of these commissions, plus some students.

Give them subpoena powers esp relating to teachers who promote/participate in campus violence, anti-Semitism, etc., and get the facts out to the public as to who is doing what to whom.

As I mentioned in an earlier posting, I was nominated for a possible position as a US government liaison to college campuses to investigate campus unrest during the 70’s. The person who got it was worthless, a liberal, and a coward. Nothing ever came of this position.

Exposure is a key weapon that we can have legally through duly constituted governmental investigative bodies. Subpoena power is a must, including financial records of radical, violence groups, including who their secret donors are.

Make this a fight to the finish, and finish off the leftist bastards with the truth and hard facts. The public will then understand how deep the disease of Marxism, black racism, anti-Semitism, anti-Christianity and anti-Differing Thoughts, has penetrated the American university/college system, and is now spreading to the high schools, middle schools and even the elementary schools.

Time to stop this Marxist shit, NOW.

These are good ideas in the article. I would suggest something aling the same lines...Require any state funded school to be politically neutral and investigate it and get rid of funding if it is not.

Yours is a much better solution than the article’s. Don’t tie the measures to evidence of coservative backlash - they’ll dispute it or hide it.

Just go back to Classics and remove tenure and funding for all non-Classics and all non-STEM and pro-global warming profs.

I’m not sure how many of the “marketable” degrees are for real any longer. Some time back a FREEPER posted a comment that he hired engineers for a company and he had interviewed some who actually had an electrical engineering degree but could not correctly quote Ohm’s law. That is equivalent to having a degree in dairy farming but not being able to identify a cow.

Rather than pretending “conservatives” can come up with some sort of legislative solution (the stuff of authoritarian big government) I’d rather just allow student loans to be discharged in bankruptcy court.

With this one move, academia will be transformed nearly overnight. The nonsense in academia will have to stand on its financial arguments.

The BS will end.

Geez, I’m an engineer, not a lawyer, what did he expect?

It is entirely possible that institutions depriving conservatives of their civil rights (and those harboring academics making death threats), may have committed federal offenses, including, but not limited to:

<><> Title 18 U.S.C. §1341, Mail Fraud, 18 U.S.C.§1001, Presenting a False Document to an Agent of the US Government for funding (may involve several felonies and could include forgery);

<><> 18 U.S.C.§1027 False statements and concealment of facts in relation to funding documents required by ERISA enacted 1974 and other possible offenses including civil and/or criminal RICO violations.

<><> 18 U.S.C. §§1961-68 (RICO Act)18 U.S.C. §1001 (making false Statements to Agents of the US Government regarding federal funding),

<><> 18 U.S.C. §241(Conspiracies Against Civil Rights). Violation of Civil Rights under Color of law and conspiracy. Conspiring with others to violate conservative students’ 4th amendment rights.

<><> Possibly full investigations centering on RICO conspiracies under 18 U.S.C. §1962(c) could be warranted because (1) the persons (2) were employed by or associated with a federally funded enterprise (3) that engaged in or affected interstate commerce and that (4) the persons operated or managed the enterprise (5) through a “pattern” (6) of racketeering activity, and (7) the taxpayers were injured by reason of the “pattern” of racketeering activity.

<><> Alleged Offenses could include Violation of Rights – which prohibits in relevant part, “two or more persons (from conspiring) to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District

<><> Title 18 U.S.C. §2 41 – Conspiracy Against Constitutional mandates in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of having so exercised the same . . .” See, 18 U.S.C. §241.
