Ivanka Trump’s uncomfortable embrace of refugees
washingtontimes.com ^ | 4/27/17 | Cheryl K. Chumley

Ivanka Trump, already under growing fire from some in the conservative camps who think she’s exerting too much influence over dad Donald, is now calling for the White House to open doors to Syrian refugees.

Conservatives and border control advocates are quite right to be concerned.

Ivanka’s soft stance on refugees would seem a direct conflict with President Donald Trump’s campaign promises to crack down on borders — and particularly, on the entrance of refugees from terror-tied nations who could prove a national security danger to American citizens.

I posted the other day (4/26/17 at 12:36 AM) that I was against the Trump/Ivanka/Jared menage a troix from the gitgo. I stated it was NOTHING PERSONAL against the Kushners.....that the appointments of the duo to Trump’s inner circle security advisory team was just bad political thinking, bad optics, a sponge for future bad PR, and an ongoing distraction to the President’s bold and much-needed initiatives.

I stated that Ivanka and her husband will continue to be attacked by the Left for nepotism-plus for the next four years.

I opined that I felt that family advice to the President could and should be confined privately to the breakfast table and his office, figuratively speaking.

I pointed out that the negative drumbeat from the President’s enemies will continue on and on....from the conservative side (due to the Kushners’ liberal leanings) and from the liberal side alike.

Wow!....did I get dumped on from a few who should know better for that analysis of mine, both on the thread that I had posted on and also by freepmail....and Wow! was I right on the button in my post !

The things that I said will happen is happening now right as is reported in this thread’s article above.

I was called a “hater” of the Kushners, an anti-Trumper, a liberal troll, etc....and, as most of you know, I was one of the original Trumpers on this board, and one of his biggest boosters....even composing and posting my original world-famous poems throughout his campaign, LOL.

I don’t care about the name-calling, but it’s curious how some here will go on the attack for ANY critique of presidential moves, especially when so many good pro-Trump freepers actually voice their sometimes critical opinions of him “more in sorrow than in anger”, as the saying goes.

I’ll say it again....the appointment of family (in particular, the liberal-leaning Kushners) will be the “gift that keeps on giving” for the attack dogs of the Left.

And it’s all so unnecessary.

Leni

Right there with you...agree about Kushners, and I have been called some of the same names :(

As I have posted here multiple times, one of my biggest concerns is that free speech and political debate seems to be dying in this country—intolerance to a different point of view on both the left and the right seems to be the order of the day. The media, college campuses and various websites are monitoring and censoring who can speak and what can be said.

Like you, I was one of the first Trump supporters here (when this was “Cruz Country”), and I stated then and even today that I would crawl over broken glass to vote for Donald Trump~~I was and am a supporter, yet I have been called names and attacked for daring to question “my President.”

I don’t think it is a bad thing to question and debate any leader or any action. Actually, having supporters question the actions of this administration may help Trump to not get distracted by the Swamp...and help ensure that he has a successful first term that leads to a second term :)

Thanks for posting!

I am not ‘trolling’ Leni, nor am I ‘attacking’ her. In fact, I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Would appreciate it if you would pay closer attention to whom you include on one of your own rants.

“More than a few people here and abroad, like it or not, or believe it or not, think Ivanka is speaking for her father on matters of abortion, funding Planned Parenthood, opening the door on Syrians, and other liberal causes of hers. And I think it hurts him ! And I don’t like it! And I made my misgivings known on this forum.”

I concur. At least Ivanka’s husband Jared keeps his opinions out of the public domain for the most part. Ivanka should do the same if she chooses to speak on topics contrary to her father’s policies and publicized opinions. She undercuts his message and makes Trump’s base worry and wonder about how much influence over policy she has when whispering in her father’s ear.

I understand Ivanka and her husband serve as Trump’s eyes and ears, as the White House is a very Machiavellian place. But when speaking publicly or when being interviewed, Ivanka should be very careful when expressing viewpoints contrary to her father’s positions. It has a bad look about it when she and her father appear to be working at cross purposes (or are they?). Trump may see Ivanka as a way to suck in more millennials with her more liberal viewpoints, but it is still a major bone of contention to Trump’s base what his daughter, IMO, too overtly expresses when it comes to matters liberal, and when in the public forum.

“ménage à trois”

Actually there is a red wine on the market labelled “ménage à trois”. It’s about $8-12 per bottle, depending on where you buy it (many places sell it), and is mighty tasty. One excellent way to enjoy a ménage à trois.

More concern troll bait - for those who don't think the attacks by the LSM and the treachery of the Dems and the RINOs isn't enough for Trump to deal with.

I guess our FR concern trolls are like the campus snowflakes they love to mock....

I have been addressing the people on this forum. I don’t care what Leftists think or say. People on our forum supposedly support our President. We know what Ivanka’s beliefs are, and we know what Trump’s record on these matters is.

If we’re going to support the president, then I propose we do it.

That doesn’t mean that we support bad policy, and when he joined Ryan to push his health care plan, we all voiced our displeasure. We should not remain silent when it come to the implementation of bad policy. I do want us to consider all angles on policy though. If we’re getting 75% of what we want, and 15% more of what we didn’t even ask for, isn’t 90% pretty decent. We need to be realistic. We shouldn’t toss 75-90% away, just because we demand 100%.

Some folks, present company excluded, pop up on numerous threads across the forum saying the same things over and over, being as insulting as they can be to Trump’s daughter and her husband.

So even here on Free Republic, Trump gets very little respect for him or his family. That’s a shame.

Some will argue that he gets respect here. No, he gets about 75% support here, and that 25% is downright vicious. There is still a group seething here, and they look for every opportunity to jump in and trash him and his family.

We have a group here who trash Ivanka and Jared constantly. It doesn’t even have to be a thread about them. Further, those that pamper these people have now given them courage to open up about trashing the president as well. This constant negativity does what? Does it help our cause? No.

We are all adults, and we all know the Ivanka situation, and we have pretty much all of us expressed displeasure at what she is doing.

I am not going to go around the forum trashing her constantly. Trump deserves at least one forum on the internet that supports him and respects him enough to allow him to make his own staff choices. Yes, even if it is his daughter and son-in-law, it’s his choice.

Here are my thoughts on the President and his daughter.

Trump has opened the door for states to defund Planned Parenthood. He has also cut off all funds to international groups/agencies that support abortion in any manner. We know this.

As for Syria, contrary to what her brother says, Ivanaka says she and her dad agree on Syria. She did not lobby him on the subject.

As for global warming, the President doesn’t buy in and he’s moving the government OUT of fixes.

I disagree with her voicing her opinion when it conflicts with her dad’s stance. As president and her dad, he deserves better from her. So does the nation.

Her personal opinion does not matter, and she should zip it.

Now, I probably won’t address this again for weeks or a month.

It is not what drives me. Getting Trump’s agenda installed is what does drive me. He has been doing very well with that. Excellent.

I won’t waste my time, and contribute to turning this forum into a hate Ivanka and Jared center, that bleeds over onto the president as well.

I disagree with her views. I disagree with her voicing them from her position. I think what she is doing is disrespectful to her dad and the nation. She should have the adult grasp that her opinion is not important.

Her only statement on policy should be:

“I will refer you to the president on matters of policy.”

I don’t know what his reason is for her and Jared being there. I can come up with some educated guesses, but that’s all they would be.

Among other things, she has been his rock for decades. She is the one constant that he values the most. Isn’t it strange that she could disagree with him all those years, and he was still able to develop his own policies and drive them forward to become our nation’s new policies.

I’m inclined to leave “his rock” alone. It has been working for him..., and I might add, the nation.

Well, that's a switch, Doughty One!

That's what I and an overwhelming number of posters on this and one other thread have been stating in essence from the gitgo....and which you hotly contested, insinuating that we were "trashers" of the Kushners and by extension, undermining the President.

I'm unaware of any "group" of this forum doing "trashing". What I see are concerned Trump supporters upset at Ivanka's liberal statements here and abroad, and these statements being interpreted as her speaking for her father....as well as other good reasons for her to cool her jets as a member of the President's inner ring of security advisors. This is not personal "trashing", but well-reasoned comments from freepers here to express their views on the role of the Kushner's, mainly Ivanka.

Thank you for coming around to agreement with the original premise of all these posts. We end on a happy note of agreement.

Leni

Oh, if I only knew then (at 35) what I know now!
Someday Ivanka will be able to say that, too.
But, boy was I smart (pretty too) when I was 35.
Political experience can’t be bought.

Leni, I’m not addressing what you have done with this, but if you think that accurately covers those who have been dumping on the Kushners, I think you’re woefully off target.

I haven’t come around to anything.

I have and continue to have disagreements with Ivanka’s comments, I just don’t think it’s useful to say so 50 times a day.

Others do, and not even on Ivanka threads.

Way too many wailers here about Ivanka, gnashing their teeth about next to nothing. Lots of people trying to claim that Ivanka has too much influence over her dad, and how baaaaad that looks, and how liberal that is making him.

I saw his speech live today. Does anyone who saw that actually think he has changed his mind about vetting people, or wanting the wall, stopping immigration, or any of those things we see him striving for?

These nancyboys, or negative nellies here on FR need to inject a little steel in their spines and remember that most articles on the Trump family or administration have one purpose, and that is to divide us.

Nevermind the media attempts to divide Trump’s base over Ivanka. It will never happen. Trump’s base doesn’t even know the Kirchners, or identify with them, and in their run of the hallways, if they cause our president no problems then send them roller skates. No one cares.

I hope you’re right, and that Ivanka proves an asset to the president.

She may prove herself to be absolutely necessary to his governance. Ivanka may turn out to be just the one to deliver some meaningful ground on Trump’s winning campaign issues, able to add support to and for his base, and to broaden the president’s support beyond it.

Women’s issues, however, is just not one of those base issues, but my comments up-thread already speak for my opinion on all of this.

The rest is really just the awkward optics, as I already explained.

I have nothing personal against the kids. If they are on the government payroll in official capacity, I’m sure the substance of their work will soon be observed and inarguably astonishing, politically speaking, for our man.

Meanwhile,.... it still looks really awkward.
