The following satire from Austria refers to the controversy over President Alexander van der Bellen’s remarks on the hijab, as reported here last night.

Note: the cigarettes featured in this spoof are a reference to the fact that the president is a heavy smoker.

“[I]f it goes on like this, with the rampant Islamophobia, a day will come when we will have to ask every woman to wear a headscarf,” President Van der Bellen, Austria’s recently elected Head of the State could be seen saying in a video clip addressing young students.

I am reminded that Austrians comprised 8% of the population of Hitler's Third Reich, but that Austrians made up 13 percent of the ranks of the SS, nearly double the statistical expectation. And 40% of the staff, and 75% of the commanders at death camps were Austrian.[
