Trump's first 100 days: Our next Supreme Court pick will be the kicker
Fox News ^ | April 25, 2017 | Hans A. vonSpakovsky

Those who want to preserve our constitutional republic spent a lot of time and energy getting Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court. There is no doubt that his confirmation was an important step toward achieving that goal. But with rumors swirling that another slot could open as soon as this summer, the public should realize that it is President Trump's next pick that will provide the opportunity to finally solidify a conservative majority that will protect the Bill of Rights and enforce the Constitution’s limits on the power of the federal government.

He could get up to three more nominations. Hopefully, they’ll be good ones.

He’s the best justice on the Court. Would like him to stick around at least a couple more years.

I think Kennedy then Thomas then Breyer then when God calls Ginsburg. I think trump will get 5 picks in four years.

Personally, I’m concerned Trump will make an Ivanka pick. You know, a “moderate, sensible” woman for either Kennedy, or more likely for Ginsburg.

Since the witch lost the only way Ginsburg will leave is on a gurney.

The risk is you get to keep a great justice for another maybe ten years but then his seat gets turned over to the Democrats because they happen to be in office at the moment he leaves the court. Replace him now and you get a new Conservative justice for 30 years.

Even then, I think they’ll try and “weekend at Bernie’s” her if they can

That is exactly the mistake that Ginsburg made (thankfully). She should have retired on June 30, 2015, just after the session expired, and had Obama name her successor (it was 18 months until the election at that point, so it would have gone through). Oh, well, that’s one for us.

I’d like Thomas to stick around at least until 2019. Then, depending upon whether it looks like Trump will be re-elected (just looking at the economy will speak volumes), he can either retire at the end of that session, or hang on a bit. I believe that he’s a bit tired, and wants to spend time with his family (proving that he’s a human being, and not a political robot like so many other Justices), so maybe at the end of the 2017 or 2018 session he will do it. 2018 will, however, be right in the middle of a tough election season, so who knows the results?

If Trump stays for 8 years, he will end up naming 5 Justices: Gorsuch, and the replacements for Ginsburg, Kennedy, Thomas and Breyer. 2 will be status quo (Gorsuch and Thomas), and the other 3 net gains to some extent. I really do believe that he will nominate originalist judges - because Trump has lived his whole life looking to/relying upon the law to be stable in order to be able to do business over the long term. By that measure, Trump is most definitely a conservative.

My exact concern; hence, my strong comments bout this being THE test for him. Famous quote from Chucky Schumer, one of the few completely true things he ever said: “The judges are where it’s at.”

Wonder if she’s praying that Trump appoints another conservative.

I’m sure he’s considering what effect SCOTUS could have on his agenda.

IIRC it was in 2006 or 2007 when he was discussing the importance of blocking President Bush’s judicial nominations. Right then, even though spoken by our sworn enemy, I though it was one of the most prescient, concise statements ever made about judicial nominations in our system. Now, with PRESIDENT Trump making the picks, it’s even more important. Too bad we have so few on our side with Schumer’s drive and skill.
