"Breaking new ground in a concerted effort to expand gun rights, a Texas House committee approved legislation Tuesday that would allow handguns to be carried — concealed or in a holster — without a state-issued license.

Approval came on a 6-2 party-line vote..."

Amazing that it took a law.

Carrying a gun in a holster used to be considered utterly ordinary and normal, least where I grew up (Arizona).

Stunning that anyone would consider it subject to legislative approval.

Gosh, do ya think all them Texas cowboys of yesteryear had to ask if they could holster a six-gun?!

Long way to go on this bill, just the first step. Has not passed the entire House and no information from the Senate as to whether they will even take the bill up let alone pass it. I certainly hope so - about time Texas got rid of this reconstruction limitation and restored our Constitutional Rights in this matter.

It’s called Constitutional Carry for a reason.

If it’s good enough for Vermont, it’s good enough for Texas.

I am a Texan and I do concealed carry. But it seems there ought to be some minimal requirements for someone to be walking around with a deadly weapon. We don’t just tell everyone to drive a car.

No more prohibitive signs in prissy retail stores. Even churches can post their preference against personal carry, however, no longer would it be materially illegal to carry into a church.

Who would leave their priest undefended? 100 parishioners would rise in Texas churches against a shooter. Legal or illegal, they were carrying.

No one reads anymore. Read the article. There is a link in this excerpt.

Texans need to be informed. Short cutting the information is a huge problem.

Driving a car, unlike carrying a gun or going to church, is not a Constitutionally Protected Right.

We don’t just tell everyone to drive a car.

It may be your opinion that i should not carry a weapon, it may be my opinion that you should not carry one.

Freedom is the reason for the bill of rights, we need to protect it with our lives if necessary.

Good for Texas.

But would allow handguns to be carried — concealed or in a holster is a completely nonsensical sentence. I ALWAYS carry a handgun in a holster, whether it is carried concealed or openly. Anyone who doesn't is just asking for a negligent discharge.
