BREAKING NEWS: French Far-right Presidential Candidate Marine Le Pen Steps Down as Head of National Front in Bid to Woo Moderate Voters

o The Front National leader quit as she made it to the second round of voting
o She will face off against centrist Emmanuel Macron in the final vote on May 7
o President Hollande told voters Le Pen would ruin the economy if she is elected

French far-right presidential hopeful Marine Le Pen has announced that she is temporarily stepping down as her party's leader.

The Front National leader revealed she would be quitting her role in her party to focus on the upcoming Presidential election.

Monday's move appears to be a way for Le Pen to embrace a wide range of potential voters ahead of the May 7 runoff between herself and Emmanuel Macron, the independent centrist who came in first in Sunday's first round.

I wasn’t sure what was going on at first.

Then it became clear it was a normal thing for her to do.

Yes, I think Hannity has been unfairly attacked here.

Thanks MLO. I realized they have the monarchy, the Parliament, and the Prime Minister, but I wasn’t (am not) exactly clear about their Parliament, what bodies it has and how that compares to our Congress.

I get your point about Le Pen not being conservative on most issues (although she is very conservative when it comes to preserving France), but the “far-right” is just Eurospeak for “nationalists,” wherever they are on the political spectrum.

Communism failed because it didn't have enough territory. Productive people could (perhaps at great risk) leave and contribute where they would be rewarded for producing - an oversimplification, but one with an element of truth. Land reform in Zimbabwe failed because productive farmers could leave once random people had stolen their land, and there was no one to teach the new overlords how to farm. This time, the far left hopes to get it right. Surely, if they move the world's poor next to everyone with a real job, we will be happy to live on the global average of $3k per person, and we will still work to produce for our new neighbors as they follow their old traditions and work ethic.

French election cycles are much shorter than ours!

Seriously, we should have primaries and the election maybe over 6-8 weeks. Two years from now, we are already going to be focusing on the 2020 presidential race. Way too long a process.

Glenn is very much off the wall at times.

One day he’s lucid, the next he’s back to being challenged.

The sad thing is, some folks will only pick up the Fascist part and use it as one aspect of what they need to form an opinion of her.

She’s not a fascist. That’s just the dirtiest thing he could think of at that moment.

What does “beyond the pale” even mean?

What a stupid phrase.

The pale was the wall that Rome built in Britain to separate their civilization from The Crazies that inhabited the North.

The massive field on the Republican side pushed the debates back into 2015. That seemed too much for me. We didn’t need all those debates. It was more entertainment than anything else.

What I will say, it that our extended process helps us see people for who they are.

For months at a time, I was very favorable to Ted Cruz. Only after watching him for a while did I realize I wanted nothing to do with him.

A shorter process and he may have pulled one over on me.

Six weeks to two months is probably too short. In addition, with our primaries early in the year, we need to have seen the candidates present their views.

One thing I will say about this process, is that it worked out that Hillary Clinton fooled fewer people than I expected her to.

That’s certainly good.

Shes stepping down as National Front leader to make it easier for those on the fence to vote for her.

The National Front is what we wish the GOP was.

They are anti-immigrant and nationalist, hate communists and anarchists, and are willing to throw down in the streets and break heads.

Of course ALL of the global media is trying to make her into Adolf Hitlers sister, now they cant say she heads the National Front anymore.

The pussy that she is up against is a real scumbag globalist and KLINTOON ally, a big liar who will not protect France against the mooselimb invaders.

The choice is clear, the international left is all in on stopping her, Trump and the far right would be wise to support her when the time is right.

Taking out Macron through some type of scandal is another avenue that must be pursued, smash the communists, the future of Europe hinges on this election.

I really don’t get French politics, lol.

If you are not on your 4th marriage, haven't slept with your teacher when 15 years old, or don't keep 3 mistresses, then its tough to get traction with the public.

The choice is between a young male Socialist and an older female Socialist. He’s better looking than she is and has a prettier wife about her age.

That was a good line.

At least La Pen is in the hunt.

She got the most votes didn’t she?
