The genius of Trumpism
The Boston Globe ^ | April 23, 2017 | David Scharfenberg

Julius Krein sits in a cafe on the ground floor of his office building in downtown Boston, wearing a green corduroy blazer and a neat part in his hair.

He’s just launched a tweedy magazine called American Affairs, and the press has dubbed it “the intellectual journal of Trumpism.”

It’s a useful label, in some respects. “Frankly,” Krein says, poking at an apricot tart, “it gets me a lot of clicks.” But it’s also made the magazine a target for criticism.

Trump, as one skeptical columnist put it, is a “deeply flawed tribune” for an intellectual movement — an anti-intellectual, a former reality television star who changes positions at the speed of Twitter.

Can there really be a Trumpism, the skeptics ask, in the face of Trump’s flip-flops? How do you reconcile the president’s many, glaring contradictions?

Krein’s answer: You don’t. Instead, you cut right to the bracing argument at the heart of Trump’s campaign — that it’s time to pull back from the globalism that’s served coastal elites and turn to a vigorous, new nationalism that puts ordinary Americans first....

globalism that’s served coastal elites

Those elites can be plunged into the sewers of hell within 72 hours if red-state truckers withhold their imports.

The question is if Trump is a Trumpist.

:)

I’m not sure if I’m a “trumpist”. But I am a constitionalist, and have become increasingly an “America First” constitutionalist over the years. So as he defends those principles, even some of them, I’m prepared to continue backing him. You won’t find a perfect spokesman for those ideals anywhere, but you have to stand by the guy who is willing to stand by you.

Had to stop there - having to deal with a fickle Ryan and other RINOs means he has to adapt - he hasn't flip-flopped so much as reacted to the sad reality that too many Repubs refuse to execute the mandates he was given by the People.

I think that assessment depends strongly on the columnist's working definition of "intellectual." I've seen where liberals with PhDs in some sort of "soft" subject (sociology, English, etc.) have mastered the art of cognitive bias. Perhaps someone like this is what the columnist means by the word "intellectual." Personally, I don't really consider that intellectual or even intelligent.

To me, an intellectual is someone who seeks to learn all the time, who pays attention to the real world and studies its issues honestly, aiming for true understanding without trying to fit everything into a box that fits one's preconceptions. My definition excludes most "soft" subject majors and most politicians.

On a specific issue, a real conundrum now for Ryan, McCain and their `rat butt buddies is the Secure Fence act of 2006—border fencing to secure the border.
We know now that it was just a nudge-and-a-wink bait to get general amnesty, and all it did was slow down the invasion for a while.

Trump won 306 electoral votes promising to actually secure the border. In their continuing fight with now-president Trump over open borders, their Alamo is now: refusing to fund real border controls.

In the meantime, “moderate conservatives” assume that abominations: infanticide; lefty agit-prop news organizations like PBS/NPR; make-work burrs under the public saddle like the EPA; and scientific studies of marine mammal penises will continue to receive funding.

The genius of “Trumpism” is that it’s like tossing an agitated bulldog into a small room filled with dozing house cats, then slamming the door: we get to watch the fur fly and the cats become wide awake.

In sum, “Since we #nevertrumpers couldn’t stop him, now let’s all just try to pretend 11/8/2016 didn’t happen.”
No way Jose.

The use of the word elite to describe anyone with a buck ten iq and the right ideology is quite offensive. I really wish conservative writers would stop ceding the word or using it as a synonym for “advocate of global socialism”.

"Trumpism" is law and order...the left has decided that if they don't like a law, they will ignore it i.e., globalism, illegal aliens of all stripes, they reject our Constitution...they resist all forms of authority they don't like AND the press/newspapers are in lock step with them.

It was not always like this, regardless whether or not our party was to be POTUS, pretty much all Americans did the decent thing and supported that president. The Democrat Party has been hijacked by the 'Far Left', the now radicalized DP, is practicing Third World politics...Socialism over Capitalism; the former works so much better...just look at Argentina and Greece for starters where Socialism killed those countries.
