The 'March For Science' Shows How Carl Sagan Ruined Science
The Federalist ^ | April 21, 2017 | Robert Tracinski

Posted on 04/22/2017 9:23:03 PM PDT by Fester Chugabrew

I am a Carl Sagan fan from way back. His 1980 TV miniseries “Cosmos” hit me at just the right age and inflamed a lifelong love of science. But we’ve had nearly 40 years to assess the long-term effects and see how Sagan unwittingly contributed to a trend that muddled public understanding of science. This weekend’s so-called “March for Science” is a perfect example of what went wrong.

All you really need to know about the “March for Science” is that it is scheduled for Earth Day. The organizers may say the march is nonpartisan and has a variety of goals, but it’s mostly just about global warming. It’s not just about whether global warming is actually happening, or whether it is caused by human activity, but about a specific political program for dealing with global warming.

To be sure, there are other goals involved in the march and some contention, even among the organizers, about the extent to which the march should embrace causes like “diversity.” So the goals run the gamut from the left to the far-left. And that’s the problem. The “March for Science” is an attempt to equate the Left’s political goals with Science Itself, claiming the intellectual and moral authority of science for the Left’s agenda.

You can see why they would want to do that. . . .

I've learned to treat those who are most vocal about "objectivity" with suspicion. Besides, where I live the Sun rises and sets daily.

I like to tell folks about Erf Day’s founder Ira Einhorn. He murdered his girlfriend and kept her body in a trunk in his closet for a couple of years. When the police were about to search his house he took off for France and lived there because France refused to extradite him when they thought he might be facing a death penalty in America. He was a model progressive.

Carl Sagan started his career when nearly scientists “agreed” the earth was cooling and a new ice age was on us...

And it seems scientists that take government grant money all agree that the only solution to any problem is bigger and bigger government, more and more regulations and higher and higher taxes...

I just saw thousands of conformists marching. In a field like science that isn’t reassuring.

If it was a real march for science, they’d go in a circle. They’d observe, form an hypothesis, experiment, collect data, and match the data with the hypothesis. Instead they form a conclusion, skip the experimentation, ignore the data, and call anyone who disagrees anti-science.

I’m trying to remember who it was on TV that celebrated “Earth Day” this year. Might it have been the Weather Channel? I can’t remember; I was skipping channels and there was some reference to it.

Actually, Philly police searched Einhorn’s stinky filthy apartment while he was there, and found the Holly Maddux corpse. Although an obvious murderer and psychopath, Einhorn was given a very modest bail with the help of his attorney, ARLEN SPECTER.

His 10% bail bond was paid by a leftard Seagram’s heir in Canada. Then just days before his murder trial he fled the country.
