I’m pretty sure the country wasn’t in the toilet when they went there.
GM was losing money there. They hadn’t been able to build a car since 2015. From a fiscal standpoint, it’s an improvement.
They haven’t had the ability to build a car there since 2015. That’s not going to change with this move.
If you can’t depreciate your equipment over 70 years, you need new accountants.
There used to be a government agency fund to reimburse companies for their seized properties. It was supposed to encourage companies to "invest" overseas. More likely lobbied by them to protect themselves and let the taxpayer pick up the tab if things went wrong.
