I sure wouldn’t mind having another. I turned my first into a $1,000 hangar queen. It would be nice to have a plain shooter.

Now we know what was in those boxes in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Given this group, I doubt that.

[Back in the day (’91 or so) you could go to just about any gun show in America and walk out with a ChiCom commercial SKS and 1000rds ChiCom 7.62x39 for $100.]

Yes indeed. I still have fond memories back in ‘91 breaking up a “pallet” of lacquered steel cased rounds in the back of my pickup in the parking lot after work.

A few of us chipped in for the load.

Today we’d all be arrested. LOL

Seems like that was about 100 years ago now.

Oh wait a minute.

Now, I get the joke...

LOL

Pushing rounds into a clip or mag with her thumb is painful.

Thats why I use a speed loader from my M1A and the handy tool in the buttstock to finish the clip in my Garand.

That s why I don’t reload.

The speed loader and that tool dent the casing

Given the M1 you have, I thought your original post meant you thought it was no laughing matter! heh

Thanks archy. I should have said, does Lake City still load any ball ammo for the M1 rile?

I’m going to try some of the Prvi Partizan and see how it runs.

When I first got it a fella was kind enough to give me a tool that made using stripper clips a very easy job for loading however, he has hands the size of a catchers mitt. I have the grip of a newborn baby.

I just use my speed loader and call it a day...

What’s the joke? I have a Garand and a beautiful Springfield M1A

Then you are probably familiar with the Drill Sergeant's smirks when a young recruit fails to get his thumb out of the way of the returning Bolt after depressing the Follower.

"M-1 Thumb!"

Oh, went and looked at a video of M1 thumb.

Been shooting Garand since in was but a wee lad and hasn’t happened before but, there’s always tomorrow....

Pretty sure you need ice after that.

The spring is pretty powerful, which is why it rarely fails.

Once you learn the trick to safely releasing the bolt, you’re home free.

(From Open Bolt, Pull Charging Handle to the rear using the heal of your right hand. Depress Follower slightly with thumb and let Charging handle move slightly forward. LIFT thumb out of the way. Fully release Charging Handle.)

While I’ve Qualified with the M-14, I’ve never fired a Garand. I did tote one in high school ROTC from 1962 through 1965. I was VERY careful and never got an “M-1 Thumb” in all the inspections we had.

After hearing that bolt slam home the first time, I took the hint!

These might have some history worth preserving since over the years they might have been used against Japanese, communists and muslims.
