We didnt know what to do." You STFU and keep it. Sheesh. If I found gold, I wouldn't tell a soul, especially not the government.

Lee Marvin knows all about this.

Not difficult to figure out how the gold got in there. The only thing that *is* puzzling is why it wasn’t removed?

30K Lbs. for a 2KLb. payout. Not a bad ROI.

Gas tank seems a bit small for a tank

I’d be melting it into my own 1 oz coins. Or something. Disperse, trade, sell. No use giving the stuff away.

You STFU and keep it. Sheesh. It's not difficult imagining "the authorities" getting wind of this and starting to ask many questions. It seems to me to be like finding something of value here. You find a suitcase on the street with $100K in it.You take it to a police station (after consulting a lawyer and following his advice regarding state and Federal law) and hope that nobody claims it within a year (or whatever the limit is).
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
Really? I’d tell someone, starting with my lawyer. These aren’t small gold coins here. They’re bars of a size you can’t just drop them off for cash and expect no questions to be asked. If you melt them you will raise questions by trying to sell melted gold. In the end though, you just let your lawyer handle it, pay any taxes you owe and be happy for your good fortune.
I don’t particularly like taxes, but I pay mine and have little sympathy for those who don’t.

Looks more like a gas can that they would carry as additional fuel. Or to store precious metals.

Melt it down and cast it into chess pieces. Sell it at 2X markup over spot.
