Will Mexico get half of its territory back?
New York Times ^ | 4/6/17 | ENRIQUE KRAUZE

Posted on 04/08/2017 6:31:47 AM PDT by Dana1960

MEXICO CITY — The United States invasion of Mexico in 1846 inflicted a painful wound that, in the 170 years that followed, turned into a scar. Donald Trump has torn it open again.

Among the many lies that he has constructed, none is more ridiculous than his attempt to contradict history by presenting the United States as a victim of Mexico, a country that supposedly steals jobs, imposes onerous treaties and sends its “bad hombres” across the border.

To confront this fake history, some Mexicans are proposing to remind Mr. Trump exactly what country was the first victim of American imperialism. They are calling for a lawsuit that would aim to nullify the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (signed on Feb. 2, 1848), in which Mexico — invaded by American soldiers, its capital occupied, its ports and customs stations seized — was forced to accept the American annexation of Texas and concede more than half the rest of Mexican territory, now including most of the states of Arizona, New Mexico and California.

Way back about 1972 or thereabouts, my junior year in college and needing an elective, I signed up for an Anthropology class; North American Indians. Turned out to be one of the more interesting courses I took. Anyway, one day the Proff got to philosophizing and stated “all borders are temporary”. For some reason her comment has stayed with me all these years. And, when this topic comes up it comes to mind. Anyway, read a book awhile back, “The Next 100 Years, George Friedman, 2010” that makes some interesting projections about the future relationship between the US and Mexico. It’s on Amazon and an easy read. If you’re interested in this subject suggest you give this book a try.

Prudence would suggest that reopening the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo with a real-estate developer who covets prime real estate like Cabo or Riviera Maya might not really be in Mexico’s best interests.

“Enrique”, you show us the same level of mind boggling ignorance and stupidity that your long ago countryman Santa Anna showed us when instead of forsaking his dictator ways against the Texas settlers inhabiting his country at his invitation he attacked them and butchered them at the Alamo and then executed hundreds of them at Goliad.

Then April 21, 1836, his pitiful Army was defeated at San Jacinto and rather than allow himself to be legally executed for his butchery of Texans, including many brave Mexicans that fought against him he gave up “all lands North of the Rio Grande”.

So, FY, and the New York Times for insulting us all with your sick and pathetic Liberal fantasies this morning.

If the reconquista succeeded, where would they move next to escape the feudalism and corruption of Mexico? Canada?

I hope they try to take it back. I really do. It would be exactly the excuse we need to wage war against them.

It looks like they already have. Look at California. They have been invading for a long time increasing their numbers. The best thing we can do is get rid of the "anchor baby law". They have been coming here for decades to drop their babies in the US knowing that very few President's would deport the parents if the children are American citizens.

This article makes about as much sense as Rome claiming that Britain, France, Germany, Egypt, etc are actually Roman territory because they once controlled them...

The quote is factually incorrect: they were Spaniards, not Mexicans. Try calling the descendants of Spanish settlers in New Mexico Mexicans and see what happens.

And what about the native Americans who found themselves unwilling members of the Spanish Empire?

Give Mexico City back to the Aztecs!

The truth is Mexico declared war on us because we allowed Texas to become a state. They thought it would unite their country and they would defeat us and take it back. Unintended consequences are a bitch.

What’s more, Santa Anna lost again, for ever, when he was defeated by General Winfield Scott who conquered Mexico in total when he rode into Mexico City in a combined arms operation wherein the US Marines secured “The Halls Of Montezuma”

What exactly is keeping the NYT in business?

Money from subversive organizations, globalists would be my kind of guesses. It's a propaganda sheet. I wouldn't waste my good money on a subscription to that seditious ass wipe of a rag.

Scott is a forgotten American military genius, Wellington called Scott’s Veracruz to Mexico City campaign the most ‘brilliant military operation of the age!’.

I may be slightly misremembering the quote, but I think I accurately remember the spirit of it.

Hmm. Let’s see. Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1821. Texas won its in 1836, so Texas was ‘Mexican’ for 15 years. It’s been U.S. for what now, 179 years? Ah, but the Mexican Cession, that’s a lot different. It was under the Mexican flag, if it ever if flew over most of it for all of 27 years.

Many years ago I had a great friend who was Mexican and he recognized all of the ‘Reconquista’ bullshit for what it is.

He had a joke.

Two Mexicans are sitting in a bar and getting in their cups.

Pablo says to Jose, “It’s a crime that the Yankees stole half of our country”.

Jose takes another snort and says to his friend, “The worst thing is that they stole the part with all of the good roads and water”.

Useless Mexicans should fix their own shithole of a country before trying to steal the fruits and labors of another.
