think the posters only concern is it’s only been 2 days since Russia has failed to attack the U.S. and or our military assets, not 3.

He seemed very concerned about that 1 day discrepancy.

Listen Friend...this was your original post and my original response...and NOTE I said nothing about Russia attacking US...Don’t put words in my mouth.\ Sadly I was actually trying to give you a friendly correction...which most people would appreciate.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
dragnet2: We’re going on 3 days after they watched cruise millions rain down on their good ally. What happened?
Freedom56v2: Correction: not going on 3 days—it was Thursday night—so that is not quite 2 days according to my calendar.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sorry 48 hours is different than 72—Especially if you are going to use time in your comment/argument, in which case be accurate...or at least be appreciative when you are corrected.

You could have said, Oh oops, you are correct, it has only been 2 days—but you insisted on pushing back...

So ping away—I won’t answer because this truly is now in quibbling territory.

BTW, “he” is a “she”—and she was a math teacher.

LOL..No we’ve studied them and analyzed them for years.

My contact was a little bit more firsthand than that, including 8 of my 388 parachute jumps being with VDV, contact in Serbia/Kosovo and 4 months with a motor rifle unit during Second Chechen War.

I am no subject matter expert on Russian [or US] grand strategy or overall OrBats, but have a pretty good idea how the grunts [they love that term, btw] and NCOs and junior officers perform.

In Afghanistan the elite were demoralized by the Afghanis.

Not really, though the Razvedka and VDV knew they were fighting only to buy time, and not for an ultimate victory. The Afghantsy conscripts and first termers were indeed overwhelmed by the pointlessness and waste of the fight against the dukhai, but the hard-core boys, not so much.

The average Russian troop is relatively poorly trained and simply doesn’t compare to US military.

The average first-termer or conscript just out of training is indeed referred to as *clay* to be molded and the term often slips to *mud* as a perjorative insult. The rookie is not at all thought of as an asset, and it's made worse by the practice of having entire units made up of conscript soldiers. This does not at all apply to guys with a year or more of service behind them, nor combat veterans, nor most of the tank crews, they are just regarded as needing to get lots better at their trade.

My main point was that Putin and Russia as a whole are fairly weak and will only advance or make moves when they know there will be no response.

You think the US military is still capable of fighting a two-front war, as we were from 1945-1990? Neither is the Red Army what it once was, but its reserve component remains a solid pillar, and the tip of the spear remains sharp. The artillery formations remain up-to-date and competent, though certainly the logistics chain leaves a lot to be desired. I make no claims to having any great knowledge of the naval fleet capability, with the exception being that for any operations other than defensive at home or in Europe, it would be critical for rapid troop movement, and does not seem to be undergoing any great expansion or upgrading. Accordingly, my bet is they're thinking harder about something closer to home; Europa.

The moves they make are generally not that harmful to US influence such as their illegal annexation of Crimea, intervention in Syria - and their other moves such as buzzing US carriers are really in the nuisance category. They are impotent relative to making any real serious moves and will not have their military hardware defeated as it would hurt their international arms sales.

When the magician wishes to deflect your attention from what he's really doing, he does so with an attention-getting distraction or diversion. January to March, about 90 days...yes, that would be about enough time for a plan to be developed, a time-phase development series penciled in, a results and costs study done, and then approved or not by the Stavka. Let us consider: what might the US have done about 3 months ago" that would annoy the Russians sufficiently to make them consider giving us great grief in Syria....

We sent a hundred or so Abrams tanks. Last October they sent nuclear-capable 9K720 Iskander-M missiles [SS-26 Stone to NATO] to Kaliningrad, [and Latakia, Syria] between Poland and Lithuania, and a month later also K-300P Bastion [NATO SSC-5 Stooge ]anti-ship missile launchers. Iskander has a range of circa 500 km, the Bastion 120-300 km depending on configuration, warhead and model. Oh yeah, the *new model* Bastions are also deployed in Syria since the last half of last year,and have been used in combat, so they do also have an effective ground attack capability.

We are not the only ones who can throw missiles in Syria. Or elsewhere.

The Syrians don’t make a move that the Russians don’t give permission for.

I don't think the Russian OpCon is that tight. Air assets, yes, probably not all rotary wing lifts.

So, the Russians are good with the use of cem weapons on civilians.

Sort of like the US Gov using tanks and chem weapons to kill women and children at a church camp in Texas during the Clinton years, the CS tear gas having been *cooked* to phosgene by the ongoing fire started by using M203 illumination rounds. That's of particular interest since the effects of the gas used in Syria were more akin to those of phosgene than a nerve agent, and the ungloved, bare-armed responders treating the victims did not seem to be affected. It sure wasn't Novochok.

But if you look at the use of tacair to hit apartment buildings by the Syrians and Russians you know the mentality.

Indeed I do. *When I shoot my rifle, I use all cartridges in it's magazine, not just every other one.* [Russian military axiom, meaning, use or consider using all the tools at your command, don't just kid aroud.] Germans teach the same concept with the phrase [probably badly misspelled] Klichern, nicht klockern! Roughly, slug 'em, don't just slap 'em around. Good sense.

Another guy said it as There is only one tactical principle which is not subject to change. It is to use the means at hand to inflict the maximum amount of wound, death, and destruction on the enemy in the minimum amount of time.

My 98 jumps in the 82nd were a little more boring than that, but having 5th and 7th Group on your doorstep and Delta two streets down gives you a perspective relative to our military and first class intel on opfor, that depicts a fine Russian military but not even close to our standard of full spectrum warfare.

Most of our OPFOR stressed elite airborne and special ops...they simply didn’t measure up in Afghanistan.

Sure. But the Russian ally Syria’s use of chem weapons on civis is an example of why most of the former Soviet Republics want to be in NATO and out of the Russian sphere. Simply look at their alies....state sponsors of terror Iran and Syria...and their illegal military annexations in Crimea, Ukraine and Georgia. ...Russia is not a responsible international actor. And Putin acts like a tin pot dictator with his KGBesque poisoning and small minded games.

Good to hear from you.

Glad have you learned to tell time :) Yes, we are approaching day 4—which will be Monday night. I am on Central Time—so I am still operating on Sunday night.

Thur Nite-Fri Nite Day 1
Fri-Sat Day 2
Sat-Sun Day 3
Sun Nite-Mon Nite Day 4

Again, I never said anything about Russians attacking, WWIII—those were words put in my mouth...my original post was very simple:

Freedom56v2: Correction: not going on 3 days—it was Thursday night—so that is not quite 2 days according to my calendar.

However, regardless of if/when the Russians might attack or not, life will go much smoother now that you have mastered keeping time ;)

Fregards.

My 98 jumps in the 82nd were a little more boring than that, but having 5th and 7th Group on your doorstep and Delta two streets down gives you a perspective relative to our military and first class intel on opfor, that depicts a fine Russian military but not even close to our standard of full spectrum warfare.

My first unit assignment out of Basic/Armor AIT at Knox was to the oldest and most decorated independent tank unit in the US Army...in 1966...and they still are. Having the Eighth Guards Tank Army on the other side of the 5K Zone from the Rhein-Ijssel Defense Line *gives you a perspective* too, especially when they outnumbered us 17 to one in tanks...in the days before Warthawgs. On the second day when the East Germans and Czechs showed up, we'd have been outnumbered 30-35 to one....

But I fell in with bad companions at Bad Toelz and Lenggries, who arranged for me to go play flying squirrel at the West German jump school at Altenstadt. And crosstrain in SF demo and take the Engineer AVLB course at Lenggries. And pull border tours just south of the British Army of the Rhein assigned area of the 5KZ, and cover 10th Group's training requirements for the 7th Army NCO Academy, also at Toelz. And so many other fun chores, for which all I got was a little green girl scout hat with a 10th group candybar flash on it. it.

Most of our OPFOR stressed elite airborne and special ops...they simply didn’t measure up in Afghanistan.

You familiar with 9th Company, 345 Guards Airborne Regiment at Hill 3234 in Jan 1988? Hit by two, three hundred dukhai,maybe Mujahideen, maybe Paki ISI? And lost 6 KIA out of 39? Measured up pretty good for conscript VDV in my book.

The assessment of Spetznaz actions in Afghanistan is not classified. They were completely demoralized and dependent upon ill trained replacements.

Thanks, I knew you'd like to hear from me and I see from your very wordy comment you agree. But next time instead of evading pertinent questions such as #258, answer it. That could have saved you some 'time' and maybe cut down on those wordy comments. Cheers

Ah, your hugely important post #258:

---Btw, I don't know what some people here are going to do on day 5 when Russian attacks on the U.S. never materialize. But you were only quibbling about 2 days as opposed to 3 right?--- ,

I don't know what you mean agree with you...I don't.

Wordy? Seriously?!? If you had merely manned up to your mistake, I would not have had to type anything. My initial comment to you was not wordy as it was ONLY 21 WORDS...

I pointed out your math/time error in your argument...You, however, are one who will not say you are wrong...you pushed back at me and put words in my mouth instead of saying "Oops my bad...should be 2 days."

Not sure what your deal is...I did not evade your precious #258...You posted 2 replies in a row (not usually done), and I was merely saving myself time by answering the the latter, #270, especially since you were spreading BS to another poster...

So #258...there are no "pertinent" big burning questions in #258 that I am evading--Seriously, it is BS...Why?

BS because it does not concern me...I don't have an opinion on people will or won't do if there is or is not an attack because I never said the Russians were going to attack...not in three days, not in 5 days...I did not say it ever...YOU, Drag, put the words in my mouth to change the argument because you cannot say "oops, I was wrong--it was 2 days" Sheesh!...Talk about quibbling?! If it was no big deal to be wrong by 24 hours--why could you not, would you not simply say "oops" and fix it...I consider the difference between 48 and 72 hours to be a substantial difference when you use time as part of your argument, and I merely tried to correct your math.

Since you don't care about time, I am glad I am not entering into any financial or service projects or contracts with you--House closing a day early or day late--big problem. Stock purchase or sale--dated a day late--big problem...Sales presentation day early or day late--big problem. Taxes day late--a big problem...Roof, carpet, installation, etc. a day early or late--big problem. Check in to flight day early or day late--big problem. So time accuracy (even 24 hours) is important IMHO, plus I tire of people posting stuff that they don't bother to check or research. Very sloppy.

Time, wordy response? Since you manufactured so much BS, it takes words to clean it up. But I really don't mind since in addition to teaching math, I taught typing, and I am an extremely fast typist. I can enter a paragraph in the time it takes most people to position and click their mouse. I don't mind taking the time if I think the topic is worth it.

Speaking of Time...Yours is up..I will save time by not responding to your actual quibbling and stalking ping game. Glad you have learned to tell time tho.

The assessment of Spetznaz actions in Afghanistan is not classified. They were completely demoralized and dependent upon ill trained replacements.

I expect that the Russians have been offering similar studies to their troops now noting how the widespread presence of Obama-admitted transvestites and homosexuals has similarly crippled the 82nd Airborne and the Ranger battalions.

What I have myself seen firsthand in the VDV, the razvedka and the Guards motor rifles tankists I've been around since 1985 are guys who, very much like their US counterparts depend on each other, take care of each other and trust and count on very few outside their own ranks.I'm sure the REMF/FOBBIT intel weenies who performed your assessment took one look at the core-belief motto of VDV and voyska spetsialnogo naznacheniya, only us!, nobody but us! Никто, кроме насand! and view that as *demoralized*. Yes, their replacement chain is ineffecient, but they do draw from the *tier 1* top-third recruit pool. And they are geared not for career-enhancing leadership positions for senior NCOs and company-grade-plus officers, but for quickly replacing very heavy combat losses in the event of full wartime mobilization. A *meatgrinder*? Oh, yes!

Same intell weenies either got wrong or were fooled by disinformation that a 6th Airborne Division was created and/or then disbanded in the 1980s, and carefully studied orbats and to&e for all the supposedly spun-off units. If they can't keep track of the number of active troops at division level, don't put a lot of faith in their following the Brigades, and less so their morale assessments coming from the studious intel folks, especially the ones who are legs and really mostly looking for a green hornet.

Where you will find really crappy morale, especially among the srochniki Afghantsy veterans, is in the way they've been treated after discharge. You'll see the exact same thing around US Veterans Administration hospitals, VAMCs and paperpushing offices. Ask me after 02 August this year; if I'm not at Camp Perry at the National Matches, I hope to be in a Moscow park fountain celebrating my Uncle Vasya's birthday on VDV Day. Sometimes cute highschool and college girls buy ice cream in the parks for boy friends or not-too-drunk desantniks; sometimes even for grouchy old sergeants and officers, too. And every once in a while, for an Ameirikansy who makes them laugh with his bad Finnish-accented Russian, but made his 8 jumps with VDV and admires them, warts and failings and all. But their real failings, not the ones made up by half-assed intel analists who have never understood even a single Russian, much less Russian military thinking that ebbs and flows like tides and river levels. Hell, come see for yourself....

Wow, another wordy post...I recall you indicated you're a teacher, so I guess in that sanitized controlled world it's expected. But your reading comprehension seriously needs some work along with your wordy chatty posts. For example you missed #258 and ya missed this part where you agreed with me.

#275 I don't know what you mean agree with you...I don't.

#271 Yes, we are approaching day 4

So ya did agree. Thanks for playing teacher.

Your kinda long-winded.

The Russians can’t compete versus US or NATO countries, they’d have their asses handed to them and they know it. More importantly, their equipment would be shown to be second rate and it would harm their arms sales overseas.

Again...the Russians will do nothing in response to the cruise strike on Syria.
