Statement by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the strikes on the Syrian territory
In connection with the missile and air strikes on the positions of the terrorist organisation the Islamic State in Syria, launched by the United States with support from a number of other countries, Russia would like to note that such actions can be carried out only within the framework of international law.
This implies not a formal unilateral notification of the strikes, but the existence of explicit consent of the Syrian government or a relevant decision by the UN Security Council. Russia’s firm position on this issue was confirmed by President Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 22 September.
Fighting terrorism in the Middle East and North Africa requires coordinated efforts of the international community under the auspices of the United Nations. Attempts to pursue geopolitical objectives and violations of the sovereignty of states in the region can only aggravate tensions and further serve to destabilise the situation.
Moscow has repeatedly warned that those who initiate the unilateral use of force bear full international and legal responsibility for its consequences.
I agree Ray. The whole thing stinks.
Assad wasn’t making threats against other nations in the region. This was not a top priority.
Just a real shame IMO.
If Assad was using gas, he’s getting just what he deserved. I’m sure not sold on it.

The reports keep talking about ‘chlorine gas’. It wasn’t long ago we were fighting the rebels over a dam.
The ‘white hats’ were in the town filming immediately after the attack. I wonder if any of them bothered to wander over to the arms depot Assad said he targeted, to see if there were any signs of sarin or whatever?
There are reports the White Hats are armed terrorists who put on the white hats for spin. A Soros funded group.

We’ve been in Syria for a while.
Heck, we have been giving targeting data to Russia.
What bothers me is I am not sure where the gas came from. Assad, another party, rouge captain ordering it. Lots of choices.
Israel’s intelligence carry’s a fair amount of weight with me. Netanyahu was certain Assad was a bad player here. I don’t think he said that publicly without some reason.
It is true that Israel and Syria have had some bad blood recently. Does that figure in? I tend to doubt it. Israel has been fairly even handed in it’s views. If it thinks something was bad, it says so. If not, it generally doesn’t blow it out without a reason.
Did Syria his a rebel cash? Trump says Syria has used gas a number of times over the last few months. Did Syria his stashes each time?
I think Trump had intel to back his play. I can’t imagine him just going all in for nothing.

This seems to have been written before the attacks but other than an apparently wrong guess about what Trump would do, I think the reasoning is better than that of anyone else out there, excepting maybe Trump. Trump knows.
Its not our job to hit back, we were not attacked.
If Assad did this, then he is really stupid. It could very well be a false flag event.
Let’s hope that they don’t find any dead Russians.
What is the risk VS reward in this situation. I only see risk.

Syria has been playing “whack your neighbor” for years now.
Why did we jump in to this? Oh, and expect something on North Korea soon also.
We have hundreds of US Military in Syria already.
