President Donald Trump is tapping GOP New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to lead the administration’s efforts to combat rampant opioid addiction and heroin abuse nationwide.

Christie’s position is reportedly part of the White House Office of American Innovation, a new initiative led by Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner that is being described as a “SWAT team” of business leaders that will tackle a range of government failings. An anonymous White House spokesman said Monday the announcement is expected this week, after The Washington Post broke the development Sunday evening, reports The Associated Press.

That has been the case since the 1980s

Truth is chronic pain sufferers should be looking for multimodal solutions to their pain.

All hail Czar Chris!

So Christie is going to be answering to the son of the man he sent to the federal pen? Wonder how those status meetings are going to go?

Re: your last line

Because to often people think because the have a Rx that they can take the pills anyway they want. Taking pain killers in ways not prescribed reduces effectiveness, increases rebound pain, and enlarges chance if addiction

“Oh good. Now we get to watch government solve people’s problems for them. It is wonderful that the government is not only compassionate, but so darn effective, that this won’t cause more problems than it solves.

Sadly, it often seems that the fact that that is sarcasm is lost on conservatives (or many of them), who see no problems here. If conservatives are going to be this stupid, then who in the world are going to be the adults in the room?”

Agreed. When you set out to stop people from making bad decisions, the only way to do that is to infringe upon the civil liberties of EVERYONE. Look for more property confiscation, midnight no-knock raids on the wrong houses, and roadside searches in an effort to stop this.

My best solution? Let the addicts take their poison until they die. Then spend 50 bucks on a cardboard coffin.

People seeking prescription meds are patients. People seeking prescription pain killers are suspects.

None... Zero... Nada... worse than useless. I don’t want Krispy to go away mad... I just want him to go away.

Great. Now it will be even harder for chronic pain sufferers to get pain meds.

I live in Pa, and have been watching the publicity on this with some interest.

As a retired marketing/advertising guy, here is what I see coming:

the politicians are orchestrating the 'war on opioids' (and by that I mean the lawful medications) to pave the way for broad public acceptance of marijuana as a controlled option for pain relief, relieving the stigma that the government created for weed as a 'gateway' to hard drugs.

While this is going on, those that are in the know are quietly acquiring the rights, property, permits, etc. for growing and distributing marijuana once it becomes broadly accepted as a substitute for opioids.

“Great. Now it will be even harder for chronic pain sufferers to get pain meds.”

My first thought as well. They’ll take any number of misguided and stupid actions that will inconvenience only those with a legitimate need for the medicine, while affecting smuggling and criminal sales in no way.

On the way to work this morning I heard on the radio news that accidental deaths from opioid overdose have surpassed car accidents and gunshots.

Combined.

Per the CDC.

That’s a LOT of addicts.

Won’t this problem eventually self correct?

I’m a former drug addict.

Took only one viewing of Requiem For A Dream for me to know that I never wanted to mess with heroin/ opiates.

And so I never did.

This is a genuinely amusing story....which is insane considering it’s about the opioid addiction.

I can’t even begin to imagine why Trump would select Christie for this nor can I understand why Christie would take this.

Chris, I need you to do an impossible job without any glory on a problem with which you have no experience. Also, the kid of the guy you sent to prison is your boss.

I’ll do it!!

“What is “harder” than getting legitimate prescriptions filled, by a reputable doctor?”

There isn’t much that is harder than getting a prescription for painkillers these days.

In my 6.6 decades, I’ve seen a number of these hysterical reactions sweep the country. Stupid.

Was Christie’s willingness to accept the post gotten in advance?

A good many more could be found who dislike him for other reasons. He would do well to ask for redemption prior to asking for a ‘job’

Shutting down the CIA and DEA would be a good start. They are responsible for most of the cocaine & heroin imports. Christie probably is a deep state puppet and would protect dark money sources. Remember this slime said that Trump wasn’t spied on.

So knowing the anti-2A Christie, they’ll probably target pain patients, doctors and pharmacies, because they have their adressses and SWAT raids are more fun on doctors offices than crack houses.
