PARIS -- The man known as “Carlos the Jackal” has been convicted in a French court of a deadly 1974 attack on a Paris shopping arcade and sentenced to life in prison for the third time.
The Venezuelan-born Ilich Ramirez Sanchez is already serving two life sentences in France for murders and attacks he was convicted of perpetrating or organizing on behalf of the Palestinian cause or of communist revolution in the 1970s and ‘80s.
As the trial wrapped up Tuesday, the 67-year-old known worldwide as “Carlos” denounced “an absurd trial” for a 42-year-old crime.
Carlos had denied involvement, saying there was no proof against him.
Five judges found Carlos, the only defendant, guilty of throwing a grenade onto a shopping area, killing two and injuring 32.

Day of the Jackal was a not bad movie.
I watched the French Special Gendarmerie take that POS out of his cell to court on Isle de la Cite in the 70’s. They blocked the entire street along the river and had massive automatic weapons presence. He was chained on his arms and legs, was carried in an armored van.
Can’t understand why the pig is still alive 40 some odd years later. He killed many and traumatized entire countries.

Carlos converted to Islam while in prison, quite a number of years ago, and then married his terrorist-supporting attorney (she also converted to Islam). I don’t know what his Muslim name is now.
If I remember correctly, In 2001, after converting to Islam, Carlos the Jackal married his lawyer, Isabelle Coutant-Peyre, in a Muslim ceremony, although he was still married to his second wife then.
“Sentenced to life in prison for the third time”. Convicted criminals should be automatically put to death when there are two or more life sentences.

The Jackal’s (now) wife is a lawyer who represented Zacarias Moussaoui early on during his imprisonment, while he was awaiting trial for his role in the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001.
Her other clients include Stellio Capo Chichi, Youssouf Fofana (murderer of Ilan Halimi), Roger Garaudy, Mohamed Benalel Merah (father of Mohammed Merah responsible for Toulouse and Montauban shootings), Charles Sobhraj, and the Islamic Republic of Iran against the movie Argo.
Quite a record she has there.... No wonder there’s an attraction.
