Apparently Obama and his ghostwriter are in French Polynesia earning that huge(T)

Buried deep inside a very long Washington Post article about Barack Obama’s post-presidency is the revelation that his is supposedly writing his memoir during his month-long South Pacific retreat to French Polynesia. (hat tip: Caitlin Yilek)

…he jetted off in a Gulfstream G550 to Tetiaroa, a South Pacific island once owned by Marlon Brando. He plans an extended stay there to start writing his White House memoir, according to a person familiar with his plans who asked for anonymity to discuss them.

As ever long time reader of this site knows, Jack Cashill has covered the authorship of Dreams from my Father more carefully than any other analyst. He even has a book on the subject that, now that Obama is out of office, is gaining slow and grudging acknowledgment from the leftist establishment.

Obama will have the help of whatever ghostwriter he wants, and there are some great ones out there. He and Michelle have a reported sixty-million-dollar advance, so hiring the best is easy.

I suspect that Obama is talking into a recorder, maybe answering questions from the ghost, and it will be the ghostwriter who turns those thoughts into a narrative that coheres. Lots of them would be happy to do it for him. Eat your heart out, Bill Ayers.

supposedly writing his memoir during his month-long South Pacific retreat

That would lead one to think that he is penning something akin to school paper. A college thesis takes at least one year. And a doctoral dissertation is a number of years.

A three hundred or so page memoir over a month vacay? Yeah right.

Obama seems to be in French Polynesia, a non extradition-country...

French Polynesia is not a country, it's a French overseas territory. It may have a local legislature, but foreign relations, defense, and law enforcement and judiciary are administered from Paris. And France does have an extradition treaty with the U.S.

Signs that the dotter has got some, —ahem, ...issues.

Somebody needs to get her a ghost writer too.
That ghost could help her get through college; a win/win if I ever saw one.

said treaty allows France to refuse extradition for what it considers ‘political crimes’.

Obama chose well in that France will not go near this case.

I think he’s picked an especially lovely place for himself. Google “French Polynesia Sex Tourism”. Here’s one hit:

snip- “Most of the travelers who were on our trip to Bora Bora are gay… I’d say 95%, mostly men, and a single MTF transsexual whom the local Mahu thought could walk on water”

In Bora Bora a few of the service staff were conspicuously tall women whom the trained eye revealed to be men, and who represent ‘the third sex’ in the islands.

According to Francois Bauer, for centuries, traditional families in French Polynesia raised their eldest son as a woman, or Mahu, believing him to have divine qualities, and the best traits of both sexes.

In the 1960’s, when the French began nuclear testing in Tahiti, there weren’t enough women to entertain all of the soldiers, so many of the local men became women. Now that’s what I call hospitality.

Today, the Mahu (MAH-who) are effeminate men who choose to live as women. The term Raerae (ray-ray) is also used, but I’d exercise caution. Originally coined for transsexual prostitutes, Polynesian transsexuals may consider it a term of derision and react accordingly – which I personally witnessed on our trip – so I’d go with Mahu unless they correct you.

Most of the travelers who were on our trip to Bora Bora are gay… I’d say 95%, mostly men, and a single MTF transsexual whom the local Mahu thought could walk on water. They weren’t far off. It’s no wonder we found acceptance everywhere we went, on and off the resort property. They’re leagues away from the U.S. and in this, leagues ahead.

G550s are “green underneath”! ;-P

(The aircraft, after manufacture and before painting, is colored green.)

Is there any precedent for an Ex-President that leaves the USA for an extended hiatus abroad, shortly after leaving office?

Theodore Roosevelt left the US for about a year immediately after leaving the presidency.

It could probably be written in a couple of weeks.

0's probably getting the same kind of deal PIAPS got with her books. DNC money men hand over a bunch of cash for "a job well done", say that the money is for the book/books, away the phonies go and nobody ever reads the book so who cares.

Libs will be progressives.

Barack said he was taking Michelle on vacation after he left the White House.

He took her to his two gay buddies' place in California when they first left the WH. Then he took her to Branson's island. They've gone a few other places. Now, he's off to a non-extradition island with whomever the current Reggie/s might be. Moo may be glad to get rid of him for a while. Wonder where she's jetted off to. And all of it paid for with tax dollars they skipped off with.

“”But then, Barack said he was taking Michelle on vacation after he left the White House””

They did go - straight from DC on Inauguration Day to Palm Springs for a night or two and then to the British Virgin Islands on Branson’s property for several weeks...Remember they had to make a splash by boarding the Presidential helicopter in front of the capitol for everyone to see!!!

Apparently you didn’t even miss them. Well, neither did I!!!

Well, you don't have much of an imagination then. You need to get out more. Or try a little harder to imagine this:

My wife and I have been happily married for 42 years, retired now and run a beef cattle farm. If either of us has to or wants to go somewhere, the other stays behind to tend to the critters. Not unusual. Standard practice with a herd of cows to care for.

We have been apart for over a month many times. Several military deployments when we were both in the Air Force, family emergencies like when my wife went to help her 80 year old mom after she had two hip replacement surgeries in 6 weeks, my wife's 3-month long trip to Europe with her mom when she retired, my 5-week trip back home to Arizona for my 50th high school reunion and to visit my friends and family, her 6-week trip to Australia to visit with her college roommate and travel together down under, my 5-week trip out west to pick up the two grandkids to take them on a month-long camping trip through the national parks and other sights.

I could go on because there are many more times we've been apart for over a month's time but you get the picture. It may be unimaginable to you, but it is commonplace with other folks.

You may be right about your criticism of the Obamas but don't extrapolate the dim view of them being apart to other folks. Life is a lot more complex than what you make it out to be. Sometimes a long separation is necessary to take care of business or just because life intervenes when you least expect it to.
