So, what changed your mind about Trump? (vanity)
March 24, 2017

Posted on 03/24/2017 4:32:05 PM PDT by EveningStar

Some of us, forum posters, conservative columnists, and commentators, were not thrilled with having Donald J. Trump as the GOP nominee. We thought his statements were reckless and stupid. And we didn't trust him or believe him when he talked conservative principles. After all, he'd changed parties several times over the years.

When the election came around, some people supposedly on our side actually voted for Hillary. I couldn't do that, of course. I couldn't vote for any Democrat. I thought of voting for Gary Johnson. He said he believed in a strong military. But then he said that he wanted to cut the military budget.  No thanks. And this didn't even take into account his "What's Aleppo" gaffe. But I couldn't vote for Trump either. So, for the very first time ever, I didn't cast a vote for President, and I'd been voting in Presidential elections since 1968 when I was first eligible to do so, always for the Republican candidate. I figured that no matter who won, the country was screwed.

So, what changed your mind about Trump?

I was wrong about Trump.

Now, I wasn't a Bushbot and I'm not going to be a Trumpbot. For instance, I wasn't thrilled with Dubya's domestic policy. He couldn't find his veto pen during his first term (I don't see President Trump having the same problem, but we'll see), but I really liked Dubya. Likewise, I doubt that I will agree with everything President Trump does and says (his tweets and statements at rallies sometimes make me cringe). Does that make me a traitor, fair weather friend, troll, concern troll, sleeper troll, RINO, Democrat, etc? No, it just means that, "Mr. President, I disagree with you on this, but overall, I think your doing a good job." I'm not a cultist. Cults are for the Left. Let them worship the Kennedys, Mao, Castro, Clinton, Obama, et al. Conservatives should not be cultists

I want a President's policies to keep us free, safe, and prosperous. It certainly looks like President Trump is well on the right track.

In the mean time, I'm hungry. I need something to eat:

What changed my mind to vote for Trump was the death of Kate Steinle.

Enough.

I haven’t changed my mind about Trump.

I couldn’t support this bill and didn’t.

We’ll be getting plenty of good stuff out of Trump.

He’ll give us a better plan. He’s not a quitter.

He can read the tea-leaves, and he knows what will pass.

It wasn’t this road apple.

I wouldn't say I changed my mind because I was always open to him.

What sold me was his willingness to get nasty and having the right enemies, especially in the GOP.

I was on board from day one.

I think JR and I were the two original FR Trumpeteers. :)

You didn’t vote for President!

And I swore that I would never do that. But I did it, nonetheless.

I was banned from FR for a month or two for what I thought were relatively mild critiques of Trump. I certainly never would have voted for Hillary, or any modern Democrat, but I didn't vote for Trump, either.

I didn't believe - nor do I believe now - the claims that Trump is a fascist, Nazi, racist, or anti-Semite. I had questions about his temperament, and his tweeting, and I still do, and I wish someone close to him would tell him to stop it. Stop the tweets, stop shooting yourself in the foot and giving ammo to your opponents.

In my view, the judges striking down his immigration orders are acting outside the law, and doing it for reasons of partisanship and ego-gratification.

As for the recent health-care "fiasco," I say: good - postpone it until you get it right.

I was for Trump after the first debate. I liked how he spoke his mind, and how what he said resonated with my own thoughts. That, plus I was tired of the same old politician B.S. I heard from the others.

Nothing in this bill would have brought YOUR costs down for ANYTHING, this bill did NOTHING to help OUR costs!!! Phase 3 would never see the light of day and that is NOT acceptable!!! Trump will now take the reigns and find a way to get the bill bipartisan with republican factions!!

“Stop the tweets”

But many of us love that he tweets!

I was for Cruz at first, but that didn’t last long. Once Trump announced, I was apprehensive about another east coast candidate, but really liked that he wasn’t another politician. I jumped on board the day that Rush said he’d just played golf with Trump, and had nothing but praise for the ideas Trump presented, and how he wasn’t another “establishment” candidate.

You wrote: “some people supposedly on our side actually voted for Hillary.” Anybody who voted for the PIAPS is NOT on our side. No two ways about it.

Crow goes down pretty easy, when it is doused in Winning sauce. Winning makes everything better.

I was originally for Cruz but had no issues w/Trump who was my second.

I was never put off by the way he spoke because I recognized two things 1) he’s not a politician 2) he’s from Queens.

I have plenty of family from NY and they generally speak the same way. I almost fell out of my chair laughing when Trump said that line about making the wall 10 feet higher. Reminded me of the good ole days.

Some people seem to be so beguiled by “silken tongued” political types. You’d think folks would learn over time that that’s not a indicator or truth, sincerity, or, necessarily, intelligence.

So I never liked it when folks jumped all over someone for simple mistakes in speech. I thought those doing so had sticks up their asses.

I often asked those holier than thou people - Hitler was one of the best speakers of all time, does that mean you’d vote for him today?

When he won the nomination. I knew from the start that America was over if Hillary took the presidency. Right now we have a four-year stay of execution, but there needs to be a sense of urgency now that the relief wave is subsiding.

The most compelling reason was that he was the first candidate, maybe since Eisenhower, that actually managed a large enterprise. All the other presidents, except for Reagan, have been politicians for life.

I actually think that is what the dims and RINOs are choking on now. They have no idea what risk management, cost benefit analysis, ROI and other aspects of real management look like.

I agree, including President Eisenhower. The Executive Office is for an Executive, not a lawyer, community activist, or politician.
