Nuclear weapons are very useful to have in your arsenal for deterrence. But once the other side drops a nuke, deterrence goes out the window.
The argument for not invoking the Reid Rule and abolishing all filibusters is that it will come back to bite Republicans someday when the Democrats retake the Senate. Why the frak does anyone think that the Republicans not using their nukes will in any way prevent the Democrats from someday using theirs? The Democrats already dropped a nuke. They will do it again whenever it suits them.
The ONLY reason that Reid did not nuke legislative filibuters was because the House was controlled by Republicans who could easily block any legislation that Reid could cram through the Senate on a party line vote. The ONLY reason that Reid did not nuke Supreme Court filibusters was because there were no Supreme Court vacancies at the time.
