WASHINGTON — President Trump, the author of “The Art of the Deal,” has been projecting his usual bravado in public this week about the prospects of repealing the Affordable Care Act. Privately he is grappling with rare bouts of self-doubt.

Mr. Trump has told four people close to him that he regrets going along with Speaker Paul D. Ryan’s plan to push a health care overhaul before unveiling a tax cut proposal more politically palatable to Republicans.

He said ruefully this week that he should have done tax reform first when it became clear that the quick-hit health care victory he had hoped for was not going to materialize on Thursday, the seventh anniversary of the act’s passage, when the legislation was scheduled for a vote

Before 2017, I don’t think there is a single person on this site that would think Gorelick should be let anywhere near the WH.

The Trump coddlers here will accept just about anything these days

The NYT doing a psychoanalysis on Pres. Trump is dumbfounding. When did they ever do such an analysis on Bill or Hillary Clinton? Talk about target-rich subjects!

I think Ryan is pulling one over on Trump by holding tax reform hostage unless he gets his way on healthcare.

Trump was not prepared as a private business man to deal with the DC cesspool machinations. Of course the NYT slant is that Freedom Caucus is bad..but what they did was a good thing on this monstrosity.

You're right Rummy Chick... Trump wasn't prepared to deal with the cesspool machinations - both a weakness and a strength. The good thing is - from watching Trump - it takes him about four months to figure out the lay of the land on any new project. His first debate was almost comical... same with his early speeches and political strategies... But about four months later he would hit his stride. He'll do the same with the DC mess.

Ryan and our DC Republicans have had YEARS to come up with a health care plan and they've failed.

Ryan et al did NOT listen to the American people - they listened to the insurance industry and doctor's lobbies and hospital big wigs and government bureaucrats. NEVER TO THE PEOPLE.

They can pass it with an agreement to revisit the horror in 18 months - or let it fail and use the next 18 months to 'get the numbers' so a sane plan can be presented.

“JOSH KUSHNER’S HEALTH-INSURANCE START-UP IS STILL BLEEDING MONEY And Jared Kushner’s father-in-law is threatening to make things worse.”

Isn’t this a minor sideshow? We’re bleeding money across the board into our healthcare system. Voters don’t want benefits taken away from them. The healthcare industry doesn’t want money taken away from them. Politicians want to be reelected.

This is not an “art of the deal” situation.

Josh Kushner is a Trustee of Ivanka’s trust.

That 2.7 billion dollar company depends on healthcare.

What Kushner family is doing is relevant.

Not self doubt, but rather frustration. He is not used to having to deal with idiots. Congress is full of them.

Frustration is a good word.

Word is they have the votes on the bill.

Do you have any opinion as to whether this could be Mccain or Graham or someone associated with them?

Let’s remember that Ryan and congressional repubs have been lying for the last 7 or 8 years that they were ready and willing to repeal obamacare. Trump may have actually believed that. Obviously, it is not true.

Second, people with the depth of character exhibited by President Trump are often beset by self-doubt. It is central to becoming wildly successful. Only with self doubt can one foresee obstacles and successfully plan to navigate though, over, under, or around them.

NYT is desperate to cast any doubt they can on President Trump, all for the purpose of supporting the coup currently being attempted.

The Donald knows enough to walk away from a bad deal. He’s done it many times before.

“What Kushner family is doing is relevant.”

Why? That trust is just a cork in the ocean of organizations affected by the flow of healthcare money.

I don’t think our president’s decisions are influenced by the rest of the Trump family.

I think Trump has let the legislative machinery run on the healthcare issue. He doesn’t control the legislators. He’s seen what they’ve been able to do so far. As he says, time to move on and revisit later.

Considering the source, this is at best questionable. That said, Ryan laid a trap for Trump and he fell into it. Repealing Obamacare is going to fail because Ryan wrote it so it would, and now he is going to use that as an excuse to delay, block, and deny everything Trump wants. Ryan is an enemy, never forget it.

The trust is not the issue...just the connection to a 2.7 billion dollar company through the Trustee.

Ivanka has Hard core Dems that influence her finances and her family...AND HARD CORE QUESTIONABLE DEM THAT IS ADVISING HER ON ETHICS
