White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney emerged from a meeting with House Republicans with an ultimatum. If the House-led effort to replace Obamacare fails, the United States is stuck with Obamacare, according to several Congressional reporters on Twitter. Mulvaney was joined by a group of administration officials including senior advisors Steve Bannon, Reince Priebus, and Kellyanne Conway for an evening meeting with House Republicans in an effort to break the logjam on the bill. Most House Freedom Caucus members refuse to vote for the bill without major changes. Moderate House Republicans have also protested the bill.

This could be the end of Trump. As much as I want to believe in him this is the on thing that was a clear deciding issue for the election, to REPEAL OBAMACARE. Basically all Ryan has done is changed the names and terms for essentially the same thing. The fed has no business in health care in any way. I pray that any kind of replacement will fail. Repeal only is the only acceptable option.

“doing something is better than doing nothing”

If they can’t agree now there’s no reason to think they will agree next week.

People forget that the democrats had 60 votes in the senate when they passed obamacare. Republicans don’t have 60 votes now.

Someone around here has stated that Trump plays chess while the others play checkers. This could be one such example.

Trump has just barely entered office. It’s just too early to judge him in a negative light.

“Obamacare will collapse on it’s own”

The more likely scenario is that the moderates will keep funding and expanding it.

In the words of Ann Coulter, just repeal the damn thing and put the free market in charge of offering healthcare WITHOUT government interference. Exceptions, of course, should be for the truly needy who cannot afford coverage or meds. The hundreds of different plans insurance companies could offer (across state lines) would be awesome.

These Washington bastards that refuse to let the free market take over need to lose their jobs! They will be the reason the GOP will lose their majority. I’m happy the conservatives didn’t fold even though the blame should be placed on Ryan and the RINO’s.

Darn, Heritage Action is still opposing this ‘key vote’.
I see their points but truly believe it would be’fatal’ to do this in reconciliation.

The problem is Republicans, when in campaign mode, were all in favor of killing Obamacare. The reality is many of these so called “Republicans” favor it, and always have.

Repeal ObamaCare wholesale. Heal the slow bleeding wound that is killing the American middle class.

We don't need a replacement. The entire concept of the federal government involved in assigning ‘benefits’ for an insurance plan is maddening. You want to make a ‘health maintenance prepayment plan’, go ahead. Make it separate. Anyone who wants to can pay the extraordinary costs of pre-paid contraceptives, maternity rider, yearly physical, etc. The rest of us would like to go back to insurance to prevent us from being bankrupted if we get in an accident.

The political wonks keep forgetting - President Trump is a patriotic American Citizen not a career politician. He does not think nor act like them and his motivations are personal covictions based upon his love of our great country. When his time in office is over, he can go back to one of the greatest lifestyles on the planet and be amongst thousands of people that love and appreciate them. The politicians only have friends they can buy, influence, or are owned by until the party is over. What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?

President Trump found his soul and chose to serve, we saw it in him and voted for and will support him while he drains the swamp. MAGA!

Trump is taking the maximum position to pressure his negotiating partner. I believe this is called Russian negotiating. Or something like that.

The Art of the Deal 101. Prepare to Walk Away

Good observation.

Trump is setting up Ryan the the GOP crooks for primary defeat.

He knows the score.

Thanks to Ryan and McConnell.

They should have (a) just killed the whole Obamcare law, (b) gave a window of time any existing plans from the exchanges HAD to remain open, temporarily, and the same window of time for employer run plans to move away from the mandates and changes Obamacare imposed on them.

Then they could have passed a separate bill concerning Medicaid - another phase out as to what Obama imposed on it, and a whole retooling of how it should work, and how much it’s budget should be federal supported or funded by the states.

Lastly, during those transition periods, another larger bill to wholesale replace the present state-segmented mandate controlled government rigged “market place” with a totally open, individual policies only, national market place that crosses all state lines. There, regardless of offering dozens of different plans to suit individuals and families health and financial needs, insurers will obtain a scale that will offset the various risk assessments from so many different plan offerings.

If the naysayers are right about anything, it comes from a logic that says sometimes everything at once is too much, and it can be a mountain you best tackle in segments instead.
