The Trump administration is making it tougher for millions of visitors to enter the United States by demanding new security checks before giving visas to tourists, business travelers and relatives of American residents.
Diplomatic cables sent last week from Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson to all American embassies instructed consular officials to broadly increase scrutiny. It was the first evidence of the extreme vetting Mr. Trump promised during the presidential campaign.

As I've said a couple times on FR, the Travel Ban is temporary (90 days) and thus almost meaningless. The court fight now is to preserve Presidential powers from the judges.
The real goal is the "extreme vetting" that will reduce the flow of muslims into the US.

this is great !!
my European plane tickets just got cheaper
( euros are flying to the US for vaca because of the new rigomarole, flights are empty )
There should be a limit on visas for any country. There should also be followup on this end. Business? Which business. Family? Who, where do they live? Find a way that you follow up on anyone entering this country on a visa.
Hire former Israeli Airlines security agents to train our security agents how to screen for terrorists.
I already have two maxed out Visas anyway :)
Good news.
That the visa vetting is being made much tougher is great and all I need to know. :-)
Well, until the next arsehole judge overturns this.
“I already have two maxed out Visas anyway :)”
Count yourself damn lucky to have those! If Trump’s extreme Visa vetting had been in place when you originally applied, you might have been S.O.o.L.!
lol.
I hope he leaves Discover alone.
Just saw this headline on WSJ
“Trump Travel Ban Court Date Set for May 8
Fourth Circuit Court agrees to speed up consideration of case after Justice Department request”
May 8th is speeding things up? How slow do they usually work?
Guess it is good though, because we need Gorsuch confirmed before the case reaches the Supreme Court.
Why would anyone want to go to the New York Times website? We say they are “fake news” but what do we do but refer to their articles as thought they are a beacons of truth.
Yes, the NYTimes is fake news. But if we don’t reference their articles, and other news organizations, what should all our threads be about?
Just our vanities in which we all agree with each other, or mostly agree with each other? Only conservative articles?
The NYTimes article has good info about the State Department sending orders to embassies around the world to implement extreme vetting. That is news.
There you go, ace in the hole. Go ahead and try to make a mockery of the travel ban, but if you got no Visa, you got no entry.... It’s called a U turn.
“if you got no Visa, you got no entry”
The Travel Ban is temporary, 90 days per the Executive Order. The “no entry” option expires after 90 days.
The extreme vetting is how to keep the bad guys out of the country pass the 90 days.
Use the bureaucracy to grind admissions to a stop.....
The courts can’t touch that.....
It worked for b o.
In my dream world, a visa would require a thumbprint, and then its data goes into a computer. Every 30 days said computer spits out those that have expired and arrest warrants issued.
that basically IS a Muslim ban; I’m all for it!
They are tinkering with the idea of making Trump take in more refugees moving the number back to 100,000 from the 50,000 Trump has in his EOs. That would be a sure loser.
