Trump threatens Republicans who vote against Obamacare lite

President Trump, who promised to totally repeal Obamacare, is threatening Republicans with political retribution if they do not support the House bill which would leave the worst elements of Obamacare intact.

The House bill does a few good things -- it eliminates the individual mandate to buy insurance, and relieves employers of the costly burden of providing insurance for their workers. But, mostly, the worst parts of Obamacare stay in effect.

****SNIP****

And President Trump is threatening any Republican who votes against it.

President Trump on Tuesday turned up the pressure on recalcitrant Republicans to support a sweeping bill to overhaul the health care system, threatening wavering lawmakers in his party with political payback if they failed to get behind a measure that has become an early test of his negotiating power.

“I’m going to come after you,” Mr. Trump told Representative Mark Meadows, Republican of North Carolina, a prime holdout and the chairman of the conservative Freedom Caucus.

Trump is threatening primary challenges to those who do not pass this "Son of Obamacare" monstrosity.

Reminders don’t come with threats attached. Believe me, if you’re a congressman any OPEN talk of losing your seat is viewed as a threat.

The failure of the GOP to reach a consensus on the repeal and replacement of Obamacare will kill the party and the rest of the Trump agenda. It is suicidal, but not surprising.

The GOP has never felt comfortable about being in charge of the government. The Dems act like the governing party even when in the minority. They set the agenda and the narrative. They remain united no matter what the issue.

The GOPe and conservatives both hate Trump because he is neither. The perfect has become the enemy of the good for both camps.

I’m not one bit confused about Paul Ryan or his agenda.

How did Senator Paul get worked into your comment? I never mentioned or implied anything about him. My comment was solely about Ryan. It sounds as if you are the one who is confused.

I wish he didn’t want this so bad, but he might be thinking if he gets rid of the mandate it will give us the individual choice of buying it or not. I guess that’s a start...

I've listened to some smart people talk about this and the bill isn't nearly as bad as it's made out to be IF phase 2 and 3 are implemented. That's the problem. Phase 2 are regulatory issues that HHS can accomplish without Congress but the real meat of the matter is in Phase 3 and I have NO confidence that any of that will ever see the light of day and without it this bill is a disaster.

Get insurance out of healthcare. Insurance companies do not take your blood pressure, perform trauma surgery or give chemo. So cut out the middle man.

Maybe the long journey starts with one small step? If this is the case though, Trump ought to say so.

This issue is turning Trump into just another big government republican. The phases are just standard issue bait and switch, like the “amnesty now, enforcement later” crap they keep pushing.

McConnell and Ryan will never understand that nothing they do will ever make the media happy. They just keep trying to please MSNBC.

One does tend to wonder if the “moderating force” of Ivanka and Jared are behind this in some kind of form or fashion.

Rewrite? That’s like ordering a steak and getting a chicken leg.. and being charged for a steak. Coming after Constitutionalist? What an idiot. Next up amnesty and a Trillion dollar union bailout called stimulus.

"He will have the Senate write the thing correctly."

These are collectivists Senate Republicans, that are suppose to pass this, let alone "fix" this.

A poster said this gives illegals healthcare. SAY WHAT?????

Also gets rid of Christian Healthcare Ministries. WHY?

As I understand it, it doesn’t give illegals healthcare, but the latest revision removed the provision that allowed IRS to confirm citizenship, with DHS, for healthcare rebates.

What does that mean? Not sure. That illegals get a tax rebate???? What?

If the getting rid of ‘Christian Healthcare Ministries’ means no more funding to entities like Catholic Charities and “Baptist” groups offering FREE HOUSING TO ILLEGALS, then that’s a good thing.

Dittoes on this “negotiating tactic” idea.

Why else would Donald Trump place his confidence in a weasel like Ryan? Who has been and currently is out to defeat Trump?

I’ve said all along that Trump is using Ryan as a useful idiot. And when all is said and done, America will be rid of FUBOCare and Ryan is booted out of the House..

Lets just hope and pray TrumpCare is not worse.

Hannity said, last night, that the two things holding up the Freedom Caucus/conservative groups, on this bill, are the individual mandate and Cadillac taxes.

That’s my concern, as well. Remove those two things and it’s a deal.

Just yesterday, they took out the provision that prevented illegals.
