In July 1981, the night before his glamorous wedding to Princess Diana, Prince Charles reportedly wept as he was still torn about his feelings for his former girlfriend (and then-mistress) Camilla Parker-Bowles.

According to Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life, a new biography of the Prince of Wales by royal writer Sally Bedell Smith, Charles felt pressured into his marriage to Diana — and he was still torn abut his love for the then-married Camilla.

The queen has no choice as to her successor. According to the acts of succession, it is Charles, if he is still alive, and no other.

I wonder if his foot has ever gotten stuck in the stirrup when he dismounts her.

No, I heard it was always bareback.

Now picture that for the rest of the day.

In fairness to Charles, he’s not a free man. To remain a prince he must do as he’s told. In reality he’s a pet in a gilded cage.

Hmmm....perhaps Maya can write a poem about him/his misery.

Agreed. When I see what he ended up with, I simply can’t figure out why. I also think she would be the type who aged beautifully, like Sophia Loren or Raquel Welch. So sad...

Yes. Lived in Britain int the 80’s. Apparently Diana found a pair of cufflinks that Camilla had given Charles, right before the wedding, that had two ‘C’s’ entwined. Diana confided in her sisters that she wanted to call off the wedding and they told her ‘It’s too late. Your face is on the Tea Towels’. Diana was beautiful, but the many stories about her eating disorder (bulimia) made the ‘fairy tale’ an empty story. I remember reading one account of some food that Diana was having at dinner and Charles asked her ‘will we be seeing that again later?’. He was cruel to her, and after she produced the ‘heir and the spare’ that was required, their marriage was over. I also read he hated that fact that the crowds came to see her, not him. I hope his reign is short. The man is not a good person.

When you marry into the Royal Succession, you have to play your position. Diana was not allowed to do that. People loved her and weren’t fond of Charles. Queen Elizabeth’s husband knows how to play his position.

She would probably still be a stunner today at 55/56.

On the flip side, she went into that marriage knowing it was mostly a sham. She in the end was a gold digger, albeit a very beautiful and gracious one.

She wasn’t a gold digger if it was a mutual agreement. Goofy Charles needed a fitting wife, some good PR and a healthy shot of glamour, not to mention a healthy shot of new blood into the royal line. He got what he wanted in that regard, even if he never really loved her.

Wasn’t Diana dating a Muzzie when she perished?

No, I was never impressed with her either. So ridiculous to hear praise heaped on her for what she did for various charities. Her actual contribution was to show up for a party in fabulous clothes to have her picture taken. Big sacrifice.

And, then, running around with that ME playboy, shaming her children with her behavior, was not exactly admirable. If she didn’t want to be chased by the paparazzi, why did they hang out in such public places? She, evidently, enjoyed the attention.

No, Sir Elton John will suceed Elizabeth as Queen..

Speaking of Elton, in Charles' case, "somebody didn't save his life tonight".

Harry looks like Diana’s brother. And when he was born, IIRC one of Charles comments was ‘oh, and he has rusty (red) hair’. What a mess the ‘Charles and Diana’ story was.

Yeah, that "tragic" story can be played a few different ways...

《Wealthy, married socialite killed in early morning, possible alcohol/drug induced, high speed auto accident with playboy Arab prince, while husband and children wait for her at home.》

Same particulars, just looked at differently.
