A Los Angeles County judge ruled Monday that four social workers accused of criminal negligence in the death of an 8-year-old Palmdale boy they were charged with protecting should stand trial, allowing prosecutors to push ahead with a case that has sent a chill through the ranks of child protection workers nationwide.

The falsifying records charges are a no-brainer for criminal charges, but what are the rest of the charges based on? Laziness? Incompetence? Dereliction of duty? Those aren’t criminal charges. They’re civil torts.

This is very, very good. This boy died a horrible death. I wouldn’t jump to conclusions about this being good.
When bad things happen because of something government did or did not do the answer is always that the goberment needs more money and more power.
And the bad part is they almost always get both.
The worst part is that thing rarely get better and most often get worse.

I’m not a lawyer, so this is confusing for me. Has there been an indictment? Charges filed? If so, what are the charges? Seems like falsifying documents is a criminal no-brainer, but what exactly are the other charges?

it seems anecdotally to me that white parents get the book plus some thrown at them, for the littlest of reasons, while kids are left with latinos or blacks or Indians far more...

In my experience (and I sadly have a bunch), most social workers and CPS workers are agenda driven scum or just plain lazy. Now the good ones are underpaid for the awesome work they do. And they really do awesome work. But they are the minority.
