Merkel Doesn’t Want Trump To Bail On A $145 Trillion Bet To Fight Global Warming
Daily Caller ^ | March 20, 2017 | by Michael Bastasch

A new report claims policies to keep future global warming to internationally agreed upon limits by the end of the century could make the world $19 trillion richer.

The report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was one of two commissioned by the German government to help convince President Donald Trump to stay in the Paris agreement.

If IRENA’s top-line findings sound too good to be true, that’s because they might be. The world would have to put $145 trillion into low-carbon energy to become $19 trillion richer by 2050 — a 13 percent return on investment over 33 years.

IRENA says $145 trillion would be needed to limits global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by 2100. Even so, IRENA admits its plan only has a 66 percent chance of success.

She should set up a Go Fund Me page. Same with PBS. Hire Sally Struthers to do some spots with Sara McLaughlin soundtracks. Tears should flow.

“IRENA says $145 trillion would be needed to limits global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by 2100.”

I could do the job for 30 billion, complete it in less than 5 years and create more wealth than imaginable. And I already have the plan.

... could make the world $19 trillion richer.

Why the **** would the American taxpayers want to make "da world" $19 trillion richer? This kind of BS is why I believe EVERY PERSON should pay some income taxes regardless of how much money they make. A little pain is good for the soul and ballot decisions. Every person in this country needs to have "some skin in the game". Maybe then, they won't be so quick to support a government that steals money from those who earn it.

I wonder if that’s a mistake and should be billions. The world literally can’t come up with 145 billion dollars with stopping all spending.

What arrogance to think that we can do anything here on Earth to affect the climate or temperature. It’s pure folly, and disguised as a scheme to impose a global tax on anyone that can pay it.

Is not Merkel the same person who short changed her NATO responsibilities? IMHO Germany owes NATO a lot of money.

Wealth is, at its most fundamental level, measured by how much energy you can command. The more energy you have access to the richer you are, individually, as a business, as a society.

This effort, by a toxic union of billionaire rentseekers and totalitarian marxists, to make energy less available, less reliable, and more expensive is at a level of societal insanity comparable to that which overwhelmed the Xhosa in 1856 when the prophetess of doom, Nongqawuse, convinced them that salvation lay in destroying all their cattle and crops. It did not turn out well for them then. It will not turn out well now.

Turning our backs on cheap, plentiful energy from any source is just as bad a move.

The Left never considers “Opportunity Cost” when they are hatching their plans to “Invest” other people’s money.

What other things could the people that earned that money do with it if the government had not confiscated the money they plan to invest in low-carbon energy?

Even if the government is going to take the money anyway what other things could they spend that money on that could have a greater return? Replace aging bridges? Build roads that do not require endless repairs?

So when they spend other people’s money they accept no responsibility for what could have been. After all there is always more where that came from.

I thought the last Paris agreement last October applauded themselves for agreeing to new rules that were guaranteed to reduce the increase in average global temperature below 1 1/2 degrees Celsius by the end of the century?
