Churchill's grocery shelves bare as residents face another blizzard (blame climate change)

'I've lived here 50 years and no, we've never had anything like this,' deputy mayor says

Another winter blizzard is hitting Churchill, where people are already desperate for groceries that have been delayed since the last blizzard two weeks ago.

"A lot of families are suffering because they have young children and they need milk," said local resident Lana Bilenduke.

No bread or vegetables are for sale at the local store and meat is scarce, she said.

"Everyone's in a crisis until we get our groceries in."

The northern Manitoba town is in the midst of near-zero visibility, wind gusts of 90 km/h and wind chill values in the –40s due to an intense low pressure system over Hudson Bay, according to Environment Canada.

The blizzard conditions should ease late this afternoon or early this evening.

The forecast calls for five more centimetres of snow, on top of the 60 cm that fell over three days during the previous blizzard. The town has been under a local state of emergency since then.

Excuse me? Your name has bear in it. I was making a joke that as a bear don’t you already have a coat of your own. Apparently you failed to see that connection. But how you got to pervert is beyond me.

"Jack O'Connor, hunter and author extraordinaire."

Yeah....that was him. I had several of his books but it seems that I've lost them over the years... I sure liked reading his hunting stories....

"He was a good enough shot that he probably could have gotten along on most game with a .22 short."

Yeppers... Knowing your quarry's physical makeup can go a long way in determining what the individual needs to get the job done, and he was a very wise fellow about such things... Some of us may require a bigger stick then others...so to speak...

I'm at the age now when hand grenades seem to work best... :)

Yes, O’Connor was one great writer. I particularly liked his book on shotguns. I also miss Elmer Keith and Robert Ruark.

They have kids and ‘need milk’. The truth is you simply cannot make a proper latte’ using powdered milk. Barbaric. So throw the kids out there and get those lattes. Trucker safety be D-d.

Apparently haven’t heard of the new boxes of long-life milk - I always keep 2-3 in the pantry because everybody around here likes milk in their tea. It tastes EXACTLY the same as regular milk - I can’t abide evaporated or powdered.

Oh, yeah, the Parmalot boxed milk. The Full Cream is the one I’ve used for coffee. It does taste just like fresh milk/cream just need to use more to get the flavor.

Seems to me these people are thinking that civilization is inevitable and never has any hiccups.

The closer you are to the back of beyond, the more you need to prepare for shortages etc.

Southerners are not immune - we have ice storms. Anybody who doesn't have at least a small generator and a little Coleman cookstove isn't ready.

A town in Canada isn’t prepared for a blizzard??
And now they want to blame the SUV driving soccer mom in Ohio for it?
We live in a really strange world.

I failed to see the humor. Probably a GOOD thing. Rest well. I will.

Oh geez are you that devoid of humor. Bears have coats, but they do not have hoods. Never mind, you probably would still not get it. Whatever.
