The repulsive worldview of Trump and Bannon, perfectly captured in one poll [WashPost]
washingtonpost ^ | March 17, 2017 | Greg Sargent

Posted on 03/18/2017 5:25:23 AM PDT by MarvinStinson

A CNN poll out this morning tests one of the fundamental tenets of the Trump and Bannon worldview in a very illuminating way. It finds that large majorities reject the basic idea that undocumented immigrants who have been in this country for a long time — and have not committed serious crimes — should nonetheless be subject to removal.

It’s the latest sign of a larger trend as the narrative of President Trump and his top adviser, Stephen K. Bannon is getting translated into concrete policy.

And Americans are recoiling from the results.

The CNN poll finds that 58 percent of Americans worry that those efforts “will go too far and result in deportation of people who haven’t committed serious crimes.”

60 percent say the government should prioritize legalizing those working here illegally.

Trump has vastly expanded the pool of undocumented immigrants who are now targets, claiming longtime residents and low-level offenders are nothing more than lawbreakers who should be subject to enforcement.

But CNN finds the public broadly rejects this notion.

A Quinnipiac poll finds support for allowing undocumented immigrants to remain is at a new high of 63 percent. Meanwhile, sizable majorities disapprove of Trump’s planned border walls.

In the initial outcry over Trump’s travel ban, Bannon insisted that the “overwhelming majority of Americans” support his “populist nation-state policies,” meaning that a large majority is rooting for Trumpism to succeed. But this is just false.

Now the American electorate are digesting Trump’s budget, which would deeply cut into the State Department budget in ways that weaken America’s constructive international engagement.

It would slash away at the Environmental Protection Agency budget, weakening environmental protections and scrapping Obama policies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions essential to meeting our commitments as part of the Paris climate accord.

How much is Donald Trump’s travel and protection costing, anyway?

WaPo: ‘It (poll) finds that large majorities reject the basic idea that undocumented immigrants who have been in this country for a long time — and have not committed serious crimes — should nonetheless be subject to removal...’

Poll Question: ‘Now, thinking about how the U.S. government should treat illegal immigrants who have
been in this country for a number of years, hold a job, speak English and are willing to pay any back taxes that they owe.’

In their article, the WaPo dropped the following from the original poll question:

Illegals who...

* Hold a job
* Speak English
* Willing to pay back taxes they owe

Fake Quote. Fake News.

The electorate remembered or was reminding of the promises made during Reagan’s amnesty in the mid 80’s.

They were pulling a fast one on us. They didn’t work on the problem then, They’re not going to work on it now. Just forever lowering of standards of immigration. The import constitutency for the Democrats.

He joined the Post in early 2009, after stints at Talking Points Memo, New York Magazine and the New York Observer. He lives in Maryland with his wife, son and daughter.

Oh...yes...we believe every Obamabot media poll with devoted religion, just as we trusted and believed all the mainstream media polls during the POTUS election!!!

I took a recent poll of the American people, and by an 80% margin, they told me they want send all the unvetted Muslim refugees to Hawaii & Maryland!!! Hawaii & Marytland will welcome them all with open arms, even the crime and rape that comes with them!!! Bravo...Hawaii & Maryland!!! Your judges can live with them, and, so can you and your families!!!

“”...it should not take years but perhaps a couple of months to vet them.”

How do you vet someone who has used illegal information to live in the U.S.? How do you vet someone who comes from a different country that keeps no records of these people? How do you vet someone who has lived under the radar and has nothing to trace?

You don't have enough votes on the floor of Congress.

You never have had and never will.

If you look at the last 17 years(since Bush took office), neither the Senate nor the House has passed legislation for an enforcement only solution to the immigration problem.

OTOH, twice, in 2006 under Bush, and in 2013 under Obama, the Senate passed comprehensive immigration reform with amnesty.

The only thing stopping amnesty is the Hastert Rule.

You can’t can you. Kinda solves the problem. Now somebody who worked for an industry position for a few years would have a footprint by all his W2’s. But a welfare scammer would not.

We do not need new legislation. There is no law that allows “otherwise law-abiding” illegal aliens to remain in the USA.

So that’s how laws are enforced now in America? By conducting polls? What about a poll on abortion?

The Washington Post tried to tell us Hillary was going to win because of polls, now, after that failed, they're trying to say Trump should govern based on the media's polls.

Get real.

And Americans are recoiling from the results.

Any evidence of this other than a CNN fake "poll". LOL! Give me a break. Where the hell does CNN get any credibility?

Weird how Trump won 300+ EVs and 30-something states running on stricter immigration policies and building a wall. And just a few months later all these liberal polls come out and say voters overwhelmingly disagree with the guy they just elected. Sort of like how Obamacare is suddenly popular. Fake fake fake polls.

people are inconsistent and contradictory

Bingo. WAPO is the best example. They move from one topic to another as if the public's opinion was the same on all topics.

The reality is that the public is extremely supportive of the ban on travel from the 7 countries designated by Bush, Obama and Congress as terrorist.

But most of the public sees the border wall as a total waste of money and total misunderstanding of how illegal Mexicans get here.

I hear hypocritical positions on the other Trump actions. People support Trump's cuts to the program that doesn't affect them. But they oppose the cuts to their pet favorite.

I hear much criticism of Trump's savings from the cuts to DOD and border wall. Virtually everyone thinks there is massive waste in the DOD.
