Standing at Brookhaven National Lab, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer today revealed that the just-released White House budget decimates the ?nations national labs, including BNL, a world-renowned lab responsible for innovation, research and nearly 3,000 LI jobs. Schumer sounded the alarm and expressed serious concerns over a proposal to cut $900 million from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science, which funds national laboratories, like Brookhaven, and $2 billion from the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), the nuclear energy office, the energy reliability office, as well as the fossil energy research office.

Black labs matter.
The same type of research is done in other government funded labs. Lots of money can be saved by Consolidating research. Each lab should focus on more intensive research in specific areas. Duplication is expensive and wasteful.
Nuclear bomb makers. Got enough.
Important science should not be cut. In fact, funding should be expanded. Scientific achievement is part of making America great again.
Keywords are "important" and "science", not agenda-driven pseudo science and diversity outreach programs disguised as science.
Let's keep the real science --and pay for it! And we can cut the rest of the garbage.

What do they make there, cheap whiskey?
They have a big particle accelerator used for nuclear physics.
It also is used to check out satellite electronics to assure that cosmic rays or the van Allen belt does not mangle up the sat, costing big bucks if they fail or scramble data.
They also do spacecraft shielding tests for manned flight.
The accelerator and its feeder (Tandem van de Graaf with a linear accelerator and storage ring) are all underground.
They do a bunch of other things but those are the things I’ve been involved with there.
“Nuclear bomb makers. Got enough.”
They don’t do weapons work at Brookhaven.
Sounds important, are there private companies that can do this work?
“Brookhavens projects could be moved to other facilities, and the grounds sold NY State.”
There are very few accelerators in the world that can do what the one at Brookhaven can do. It’s not very moveable.
“Sounds important, are there private companies that can do this work?”
If they had the accelerator, yes. You’d have to privatize the Brookhaven linear and ring, have a private company run it.
I have used the Texas A&M Superconducting Isosynchronous Cyclotron for similar work on space microprocessors, but you are on the other side of the LET-Bragg Peak curve there.
You can bet that at least 10% are ready to retire... and there’s no need for replacements.
They can keep the good stuff and throw out the crap like “global warming studies.”
Sounds like a DNC laundry.
Pray America woke
No profit in it?
