Trump, in deal-making mode, says conservatives backing health bill after 'changes'
Fox News.com ^ | March 17, 2017

President Trump claimed Friday that House conservatives previously opposed to ObamaCare replacement legislation moving through the chamber are now on board after “changes” were made – an assertion that could be put to the test as early as next week.

The president voiced confidence during a meeting with members of the conservative Republican Study Committee.

“We are doing some incredible things … I am 100 percent behind this,” Trump said, before looking around the room and saying: “All of these no’s, or potential no’s, are all yes’es. Every single person sitting in this room is now a yes.”

He added, “We made certain changes.”

Lawmakers at the meeting include Rep. Gary Palmer, a Republican from Alabama, who voted against the plan in a House budget committee vote. One lawmaker said the changes include "work requirements and block grants."

Several participants later confirmed to reporters that those who attended the meeting indeed are now a "yes."

GOP leaders are hoping to push the legislation through the House next week, after the budget committee narrowly approved the Republican legislation on Thursday.

Whether they can will soon become clear. Apparently in a deal-making mode, Trump was trying to offer assurances Friday amid concerns voiced from both the right and center, as well as from Democrats.

“We’re going to take care of people at all levels,” Trump said.

RE:”Sickoflibs,
Thanks for the link here:
.......
Sickoflibs’ post & link should be pinged out to everyone on this thread and the other healthcare threads.”

That's only one of many out there

I can understand not liking this or other bills, but all this “I voted for Trump because I just wanted Obamacare repealed with no replacement, and right now” is ridiculous. Trump was clearly NOT promising that,

Trump promised some unspecified form of Universal Healthcare and to cover everyone, and he did it during the GOP primary, over and over,

So whats the surprise now?

What do you mean he’ll lose his base? This is what he quite clearly promised on the campaign trail - to applause:

Right - why are people acting like they are surprised and this wasn’t what he trumpeted loudly and clearly while campaigning? And his supporters cheered at the rallies for it:

Those videos are more descriptive than even your article.

I don’t want to refight the primary - he won that, and he’s the President of the United States and NOT (thankfully) Hillary Clinton. But he said what he said about healthcare, and he’s doing what he believes and pledged to do.

The House doesn’t have any power to “defund” it on its own. It is there by statute.

RE:”Eveerybody calls it PelosiCare, don’t they?”

She doesn't seem to be going for it. She wants single payer,

She is biding her time for 2019 and a possible Dem congress to ‘negotiate’ this with Trump.

I saw Leon Panetta speak at a banking conference a couple of years ago. He was highly critical of Obama because he didn’t think he needed to negotiate. He was very complimentary of. Clinton because he made deals with Gingrich to get things passed. Trump is doing the same thing. Problem is the Dems are not good fairh partners. Trump needs to keep ripping the, publicly and saying they are obstructing and don’t want to pass anything even if it’s a good thing solely because it comes from Trump/GOP.

“We’re going to take care of people at all levels,” Trump said.

Making promises he couldn't keep did in Obama over his healthcare plan. You would think the GOP would have learned that.

He said something similar during the campaign as well.

He’s doing an amazing job on illegal immigration and cutting government (other than this issue), so I voted for him anyway.

He really is doing everything he said, and this is no exception.

One week away from Ryan's scheduled House vote and we don't know what will be in it.

Sound familiar?

Just pass it so we'll find out what's in it.

I'm amazed at the number of Freepers who support socialized medicine.

It's not Trump that's doing it. It's Ryan and (in the Senate) McCuckold.

Ryan's wife comes from a BIG dem family of millionaires;and IIRC, Ryan's chief of staff is married to Campbell Brown of NBC (or was that MSNBC?) -- Brown also once "dated" a Saudi Billionaire.

Bought and paid for mole, Ryan is.

If they can get rid of 10-20 million "off the books" illegals who largely use the emergency rooms for primary care, and then improve the economy (more below), then "universal coverage" becomes far less onerous.

Trump needs to stomp on Janet Yellen (two interest rate hikes since the election, even though there were NONE for Obama, and the forecast GDP growth is only 0.9%??!!!!) She should be imprisoned for sedition.

And he needs to rein in spending. Going after Pedogate/Pizzagate, and the DNC for allowing the Paki spy ring in the Congressional IT, and a couple similar scandals (Hillary's email; Iran nuclear deal as *treason*) ought to wrap it up nicely.

But he needs to stomp on Obama's deep state, and the press, before he can get political capital to do that.

No, you have it backwards—we have President Ryan. This is Trump’s first major legislation and it is indeed a disastrous new version of Obamacare.

It even takes out the exemption that the Christian healthcare ministries had under the original Obamacare.

That is a major issue now for many, many Christian families.

Your perception is erroneous..... The bill is a Republican effort composed of all the various proposals lying about in file cabinets for many years
