Jimmy Carter's Human Rights Disaster in Iran
American Thinker ^ | 8/26/07 | Slater Bakhtavar

In the mid twentieth century, US-Iran relations prospered. Many Americans celebrated Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi as a model king. President Lyndon B. Johnson pronounced in 1964: "What is going on in Iran is about the best thing going on anywhere in the world".

During the 1970's Iran's Shah propelled Iran into becoming a dynamic middle-east regional power. The Shah implemented broad economic and social reforms, including enhanced rights for women, and religious and ethnic minorities. Economic and educational reforms were adopted, initiatives to cleanse politics of social upheaval were systematized, and the civil service system was reformed. When sectors of society rioted to demand even greater freedom, the Shah promised constitutional reform to favor democracy. In the face of Soviet and fundamentalist Islamic pressures, constitutional reform remained on the back burner, as the Shah built what on paper was the world's fifth or sixth largest armed force. In 1976, it had an estimated 3,000 tanks, 890 helicopter gunships, over 200 advanced fighter aircraft, the largest fleet of hovercraft in any country and 9,000 anti-tank missiles

Carter

Four years at the helm...

Fifty years in the rear view mirror.

All the major problems we have in the Middle-East, can be laid at Carter’s doorstep.

Even worse, Obama’s eight years.

In a short period of time the world will be reeling as Iran develops and implements nuclear weapons into it’s arsenal.

So 35 years after the Carter Obama tag-team is over..., we’ll be looking at nuclear armed terrorists.

Not even the Shah could reform Islam.

And yet liberals want to import them into USA.

He also single-handedly ran interference for North Korea, so it could develop nuclear arms.

The helicopter crash during the rescue mission to save the hostages in Iran, is a sad metaphor for Jimmy Carter’s administration.............

I'm not biased because as a stupid kid I cast my first presidential vote for Carter, I just think a bunch of others Reagan included, made decisions we can all see now might have been ill advised.

We'll see how things play out with Mr. Trump. But I agree with his thinking that we're better off staying away from international intrigue and border wars that really don't directly affect our security.

If innocent lives can be protected without going in full bore, that's fine. But if putting our military in situations that are not full bore is causing the loss of American lives while paying somebody else in a back channel, that's absolute BS.

Full Congressional declaration or stay out. Enough of the nonsense.

A lot of people think Obama trumped Carter as the worst president ever. Obama sucked (and still sucks), but this article shows Carter was FAR worse.

Carter: Worst President Ever - at least 600,000 dead because of his stupidity.

Obama: Second Worst President Ever.

Yup. And tag another few hundred thousand deaths to the peanut farmer’s ledger in that part of the world.

Major General Sandy Vandenberg predicted the failure of our foreign policy in Iran and for it had his career ruined. He was the Chief of USA Military Training Mission (USAMTM) in Iran when things started going south. He shared his views directly with the CJCS and the ambassador went berserk. He told the CJCS that based upon the current path at the time we would be responsible for destroying all that had been built up to that point. And he was right. Which is sad because it prevented the AF from having the first father/son Chiefs of Staff of any service. I know because Vandenberg brought me back on active duty and to basement of the Pentagon for 8 years in Project Checkmate. Best job I ever had in my life.
