SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A disbarred Harvard University-trained attorney faces decades in prison during his sentencing Thursday for a kidnapping so elaborate and bizarre that police in California initially dismissed it as a hoax.

Federal prosecutors are seeking a 40-year sentence for Matthew Muller, who pleaded guilty in September to holding a San Francisco Bay Area woman for ransom.

I remember when this happened. Most thought she was lying.

What is with Harvard grads? I’m seeing them in negative news everywhere I look lately. Bunch of wackadoodles.

Anybody hear of resolution to the “kidnapping” of the woman in CA that said she was held by a couple of Mexican women in a van for days?

Both sound pretty crazy.

I learned a long time ago - never hire a Harvard Grad(or Ivy leagues) I instructed my consulting co to round file those Plus Lawyers looking for a real job.

Believing themselves to be far more intelligent than the rest of us but too smart by half, and largely bereft of ethics or morals. For instance, our former President.

Harvard Law? Sounds like the ABA would endorse him for the Supreme Court.

"A disbarred Harvard University-trained attorney"

That doesn't narrow it down very much.....

You might enjoy reading up on Aimee Semple McPherson, the 1930s era evangelist and founder of the Foursquare Church. She disappeared from a California beach and turned up much later walking into the US from Mexico, claiming she had been kidnapped by a couple and held there. She said she had walked through the desert all day, although she had no sunburn and was wearing heels.

Yup.

A place I Once helped clean had a Harvard business grad running facilities maintenance and QC (who combines those two?) over a business we were contracted to clean carpets in during a summer shutdown. When we finished up we told him he needed to run the air conditioning in the carpeted areas to dehydrate the air and prevent mildew.

He didn’t, and we charged the place again for the second clean.

I guess there is an ivy league level of stupidity.

police say they thought a woman’s kidnapping was a hoax after she reemerged days later wearing sunglasses, carrying an overnight bag and rejected offers to be reunited with her family.

There’s a couple of things they don’t teach you in Harvard Business School, one is how to cope with defeat, the other is how to handle a shotgun. Simpsons movie.

A company I worked for had a HBS grad running the facilities. He happened to be in the same quality training group I was in, and his breakout group applied a grid on the car thefts/break-ins in the parking lot, and was able to address the flaws in the security.

Basically, the car part guys in the surrounding towns would hire juvies to go "rummage" through the parking lot.

Well, Bill Clinton’s HLS grad, the one that burgled the National Archives, is way below ground. That’s one less to worry about.
