WH increases proposed cut to the EPA: report
The Hill ^ | March 15, 2017 | Devin Henry

The White House will increase its proposed cut to the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget when it releases its spending outline on Thursday, according to a new report.

The Trump administration will propose a 31 percent cut to the EPA’s $8.1 billion budget when it releases its budget outline, the New York Times reports . That's higher than the 24 percent reduction the White House proposed in its earliest budget outlines.

The proposal will be part of a budget draft that contains deep spending cuts to many federal domestic spending accounts. The White House is aiming to reduce domestic discretionary spending by $54 billion in order to pay for an equal increase in federal defense spending.

Lawmakers are likely to balk at several aspects of that budget plan. Key appropriators have said they’re uneasy with the size of the potential EPA cuts — and that was before the White House increased them — and other members have said they’ll oppose deep cuts to the State Department budget, as well.

The Times reports that EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt pushed the White House to reduce its proposed cut to the agency's budget. He asked officials for $7 billion, according to the report, but the White House instead will propose $5.7 billion in spending for the agency.

31% is sure better than a 24% cut, Mr. President, keep going for more.

This is nearing the point where I might consider calling it a good start.

A cut of half that might get through Congress. I don’t expect approval of anything more than that. Of course Trump knows this.

Apparently President Trump said today they are going to review the ridiculous emissions standards Obongo dropped on the way out the door. Last week they said they were to roll them back. So here we go again another review, take a look at, evaluating....and on it goes. How many times have they not actually pulled the trigger on these things? I’ve lost count. We all say great finally but it never actually happens just “gets reviewed “. The longer they drag thier feet the more the opposition has time to mount a way block it. Maybe that’s what they want. Appease us while the enviros find a way to stop it.

The entire Federal apparatus needs to be cut by 30-40% in order for Social Security & Medicare to continue.

40% should be the across the board target.

Actually I would cut a bigger % from HUD than from the EPA, and as HUD’s budget is way bigger than the EPA the $$ savings would be way greater as well. Meanwhile two other giants could get way more $$$ in savings with meaningful cuts to their budgets - Education and Agriculture - again, both way bigger than the EPA.

The bigger problem is with the whole regulatory state, how it operates, and how, because breaking it’s rules is considered a “civil offense only” (though its ‘fines’ can be life threatening and financially crippling), it operates as though someone is guilty, and must heed the regulators demands, without the opportunity for the “offender” first getting their day in court.

The “offender” is first guilty, must pay up, and can only get back what the regulator demanded by taking the regulator to court. To me, as to guilt or innocence, the control should be in the courts FIRST, not after punishment has already been extracted.

Remedying THAT is more important than “the EPA budget” and it crosses every area controlled by the regulatory state.

Needed to be added to that remedy is federal lawsuit legislation that requires “loser pays”, even if the loser is the federal government. THAT will additionally stymie frivolous regulatory over-reach which proceeds often enough on the arrogance that the regulator guessed they’d get away with it and the “offender” would lack the wherewithal to take them to court. Which happens often enough.

Wanted the kids here in Wyoming to have a place to swim in the hot summer, skate in winter, I made a pond:

The EPA fined me $15,000 for EVERY DAY it existed..!

At one point they told me I owed them SIX MILLION DOLLARS..!

I’m sick of these agency cut proposals...they are part of the executive branch. Cut and don’t telegraph it or put up trial balloons.
