Supposedly there has been something of the reverse of the Shy Brexit vote in the UK, whereby the Dutch are known to claim more provocative votes than they actually cast. Let’s hope that’s not the case here.

Regardless of cultural or national quirks I’d think the motivation to avoid telling news media that they’ve supported or voted in favor of a controversial candidate would be the same worldwide. They don’t want to be attacked, condemned, lose their job, etcetera.

Where did you read this? Why would any given individual claim to have voted for a controversial candidate that they didn’t actually vote for?

The exit polling shows VVD (Mark Rutte) lead at 31, with PVV (Geert Wilders) at 19. These are not the final results.

The events of the last week regarding Turkey ended up being depicted as some sort of EU versus Turkey with leaders like Angela Merkel and Mark Rutte looking tough.

Rutte’s talking point for the last week: “I am a responsible leader”. Erdogan was used as an object lesson of the “irresponsible leader”, a label applied to Wilders, Le Pen and above all Donald J. Trump.

The voter turnout was reported high with paper ballots being used.

We’ve seen that before in the USA and we associate that the with funny business.

Another way to look at the situation.

Last election VVD 41. They lost 10 seats tonight according to the exit poll.

Last election PVV 15. They gained four seats tonight according to the exit poll.

I don’t see exit poll results in that table, just a poll from yesterday March 14 vs the Tweede Kamer results from the 2012 election.

I compared yesterday’s poll with today’s exit poll. The table shows yesterday’s poll, the exit polls are rolling in today and are in various posts in this thread.

10.50pm GMT update: Rotterdam has voted for Wilders.

The anti-Muslim politician tweeted: “Rotterdam for the PVV!”

No sympathy from me for the swamp Germans from this point forward if they won’t fight for their own country with ballots at the polling station. No more American bullets, blood and treasure for the orange.

I was on another board and a Dutchman posted: “They beheaded someone and put his head on a pole just around the block from me not too long ago. You have no idea what’s going on here.”

Same goes for the effete Swedes and socialist flatland Germans, and all the globalist tools.
We have our own liberal judicial appeasers, but it looks like we stopped our own turd world invasion here just in time.
Go Trump!

Geert only at 13? Dang, I had high hopes. This election is a precursor to France. It appears that the Europeans have decided to become an Islamic territory. I’m surprised, and troubled.... wow.

Does anyone know what percent VVD had before this election?

This is kinda shocking- with everything going on in Europe one would think they are finally waking up.

I thought a second place PVV showing was pretty good. Is there a “natural” voting alignment with another of the dozen parties that would give them more clout?

IIRC somebody...perhaps the EU or Dutch prosecutors...just recently accused Wilders of serious misconduct.Such accusations might give some voters cold feet.

A filthy stunt to be sure but one which desperate bureaucrats in Brussels are fully capable of.

His safety was threatened too, so he wasn’t out campaigning actively.

Then, the Turkey dust up gave Rutte the perfect opportunity to swing a bit to the right on illegal immigration and Islamic terrorism.

So even though he didn’t come close to winning, Wilders IMO had a positive effect on the country. And, of course, he’ll have a voting block—even though he is unlikely to be invited into the ruling coalition.

I totally agree. The Europeans are a lost cause. Whenever the #h#t hits the fan, and it will, no American blood should be shed to defend them. Plenty of it was shed in two world wars, never again. They’ve made their bed, now let them lie in it.
