The U.S. military is sending an additional 2,500 ground combat troops to a staging base in Kuwait from which they could be called upon to back up coalition forces battling the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The deployment will include elements of the 82nd Airborne Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team, which is based at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. About 1,700 soldiers from the same unit are overseas now, spread between Iraq and Kuwait.

A prudent move. Better to have it and not need it than etc...

Jan 23 ...
“As former President and World War II naval aviator George H.W. Bush recovers in a Houston hospital, the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier bearing his name set sail for the Middle East Saturday—the first full day in office for President Donald Trump and his defense secretary, James Mattis.”
So we have a carrier there again.

It would be cheaper to send them all the guns they need to kill each other. Keep the refugees out or build the safe zone.

“We need to plan on being in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya, Syria till the end of time.”

Why?

Sure. Tell Europe, we no longer will give you security, time to grow up. Europe should be leading with force, this is their backyard. But they are too busy vacationing and such on our dime.

Not only that, Saudi Arabia has a huge military. Time to use it.

One approach is to install a pro-US government (a strongman with a big mustache) and let them take care of domestic security.

Someone like Iyad Allawi in Iraq, who should have been Prime Minister there instead of Maliki (he won more votes), but Obama interfered to force a “compromise”.

Having been to Iraq, I don't see there ever being self rule. The major religions of Iraq, Shia, Sunni hate each other, then you have the Kurds in the north. They don't even want to be part of Iraq. The nomadic tribes of southern Iraq, thats another story in itself.

Only thing that kept that all together before was they were all afraid of Saddam Hussein. Same with all the neighboring countries. They all feared him. Now all those countries are in free fall.

“They will also be gearing up for possible activities in Somalia and Yemen.”

Very true. Radical islamists are starting to get hammered across the region.

It seems that the new US policy is to not tolerate them holding any territory anymore - placing them under intense air attack, and arming local allies to go take the territory from them. Islamist pockets throughout the region are seeing a big upturn in casualties.

Not the way I see it.

this was George Bush’s idiocy. Even Bush Sr. told him not to get rid of Saddam.

We’ve already wasted barrels full of blood and treasure because of it, and I don’t see a good reason to continue for another several decades or more.

My solution: install another Saddam Hussein and Momar Kadafi (CIA should have no problem finding someone) and get out of there.

It seems you’re okay with the US military presence over there for as far as the eye can see. I don’t think those countries imploding justifies sacrificing America’s best.

Oh hell no. I think we should nuke the entire place. I've been there. I hate Iraq !

How many more Americans need to die for that $hithole.

Wall it off and let them all kill each other. I swear if there were two people left over there one would try and kill the other.

Fear works.

Domestic enemies in the U.S. have no fear.

That needs to change.

Obama saved dollars, gutted our military and materials, and cost hundreds of thousands of lives (countless Christians) and displaced as many. By so doing, he created ISIS, sat back and watched it spread, until even London and Paris and Germany are culturally lost by the dispersion.

Now come imbeds posing as refugees wanting to land on our shores.

Freedom is never free. You should know that.

The lives of our fighting men are not toilet flush, nor dead for no reason, but valorous.

QRF, I’d guess and strategic reserve. The intent is to finish it with ISIS.

Most of the ground war being waged against ISIS is being done by Iraqis, Kurds, Sunnis, and Shia. Most of these huge cities have been held by less than 10,000 ruthless ISIS thugs. Most Iraqis do not support ISIS and are its victims.
