The U.S. attorney for Manhattan has declined to resign despite a demand from the Justice Department.
Preet Bharara declined to tender his resignation on Friday part of a demand from the Justice Department for 46 U.S. attorneys to resign, according to multiple reports.
Bharara previously met with President Trump at Trump Tower before the inauguration and had told reporters Trump asked him to stay on.

Trump probably did tell him that he wasn’t planning to make changes yet. That didn’t imply that he wouldn’t.
The lawyer is just trying to make it more difficult in hopes that Trump or Sessions will not follow through.

Well, from what I’ve read, this guy has been doing a good job of going after the RATs in New York State, so let’s let it play out. It may well be that the decision to ask for all USA’s resignations en masse, was done to avoid more litigation BS. But it does seem that if Bharara was going to be staying on that there should have been some back channel communication to that effect. Then again, this may all be “political theater!” Time will tell.
