U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hailing “a marked change” in immigration trends — a 40-percent decline in illegal border crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border between January and February; and a 55-percent decline in “inadmissibles,” who present themselves at Southwest ports of entry but are turned away. In February, a total of 18,762 individuals were apprehended between ports of entry on the Southwest Border, compared with 31,578 in January (a 40.58-percent drop) and 43,255 in December,” CBP said.
Also in February, a total of 4,808 people presented themselves at ports of entry on the Southwest Border and were deemed inadmissible, compared with 10,899 in January (a 55.88 percent drop) and 15,176 in December.
CBP said the recent drop in illegal border crossings is “encouraging” because it means “fewer people are putting themselves and their families at risk of exploitation, assault and injury by human traffickers and the physical dangers of the treacherous journey north. …

Glad this is an improvement, but miffed that we have tolerated over 300,000 per year for such a very long time now. Want to see this number a ZERO.

Eventually, Mexico will demand immigration due to depopulation.
To put it in perspective, that’s the equivalent of adding the population of a moderate sized city, compromising of nothing but illegal aliens, every single year to the U.S. At the rate were were going, American would likely cease to exist in just a matter of a few short decades.

With the CBP saying that they are only catch 8-12% of illegals crossing into the US, we are not winning at these numbers. Not even breaking even.
Yes the numbers are down but we as a Country of Laws have a long way to go. The 30- 40 million illegal invaders need to start self deporting in DROVES that will turn our Southern borders dark with bodies. I’m not sure where you got the 300,000 number, but it’s more like 1-1.5 million IMO.
Remember that when the border folks catch 300,000, they admit it’s only about 10 to 20% of the actual people who came across.
That has been the estimate by border patrol agents for decades.
This may mean something or it may not.
The January flow may be high because it’s after the holidays. I’m not sure what traditional January to February numbers look like.
This may be a very good thing. It may also be a drop that is traditional over the years.

Also there was surely a pre-inauguration “surge” in January trying to get in under the wire before Obama left office.
There are both gators and crocodiles in the Rio Grande valley, IIRC.
