The White House, concerned about the possible political repercussions of the Republican effort to defund Planned Parenthood, has proposed preserving federal payments to the group if it discontinues providing abortions.
The proposal, which was never made formally, has been rejected as an impossibility by officials at Planned Parenthood, which receives about $500 million annually in federal funding. That money helps pay for women’s health services the organization provides, not for abortion services.
“Let’s be clear, federal funds already do not pay for abortions,” Dawn Laguens, the executive vice president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said on Monday. “Offering money to Planned Parenthood to abandon our patients and our values is not a deal that we will ever accept. Providing critical health care services for millions of American women is nonnegotiable.”
Mr. Trump confirmed the discussions in a statement on Monday to The New York Times.
“As I said throughout the campaign, I am pro-life and I am deeply committed to investing in women’s health and plan to significantly increase federal funding in support of nonabortion services such as cancer screenings,” he said. “Polling shows the majority of Americans oppose public funding for abortion, even those who identify as pro-choice. There is an opportunity for organizations to continue the important work they do in support of women’s health, while not providing abortion services.”
Indeed, Mr. Trump made similar statements as a candidate, putting him at odds with other Republicans in a primary race characterized by conservative views.

Reduce their funding to a level known to be the floor of their “services”, which makes it impossible to provide abortions and I’m fine with it...

Yeah, the money all goes into one big pot! If abortion on demand is “one of their values,” then let’s let them get those who “share their values,” to pony up the money. It’s just another of those unconstitutional expenditures that is driving our country into bankruptcy.
No clue what her political point of view was. Her whole position was not really secretive, everyone knew what she did, but she came and went a lot. Spent a lot of time in the outlying branches where a lot of minorities live. She was only in and out of our office a couple of times a week.
I wouldn’t/couldn’t have done her job that’s for sure. I couldn’t stand my job and quit. I didn’t see how it was fair for some old person who worked and saved all their lives had to account for every penny spent while some 18 year old with a kid could walk in and be automatically eligible. I didn’t last long. Lol. I worked in food stamps for years and it never bothered me but then they transferred me to MediCal and I hated it.
I keep hearing the liberal bobbleheads on TV saying that the PP baby killers are rolling in the dough because millennials and snowflakes are sending PP all of their money down to their last pennies. According to the bobbleheads, PP has had “millions” donated for their war on babies since PRESIDENT Trump was elected. I think it’s time to knock it off with the taxpayers’ dollars.
Shouldn’t PPP experience budget cuts also.

It's the logical response to their whining. They claim that zillions of women depend on them for women's health care that has nothing to do with abortion. Okay.....if they really care about those women, they can stop performing abortions.
This is a really interesting move by Trump, which I support.
So...the federal funds are purported to only pay for services such as screening and birth control (arguably abortifacient) and the like, while the private funds are purported to only pay for abortion...yet the screenings and abortion are typically a package deal? Then I don’t see how anyone can make a plausible argument that these monies are not fungible. Some percentage of that $500MM is paying for abortions which would not otherwise occur without those same funds. It would take a trial lawyer to argue otherwise. Oh wait...
That’s what we THOUGHT. Apparently their profit center is selling baby parts to rich old people whom they make live far longer than they deserve.

Exactly. Once the check is cashed, the money becomes fungible, i.e., it will be put in a non-abortion services part of the budget, with a corresponding amount of money from another part of the budget then transferred to abortion services.
“Fungible” is such an essential word.
When was the last time “Planned Parenthood” ever championed “Parenthood”?
