Czech minister wants to guarantee the right to keep and bear arms

The right to be armed could be included in the Czech constitution. This controversial proposal was discussed by the Czech government this week, with the proposed EU Firearms Directive being mentioned frequently in the debate.

The amendment was backed by the Social Democrats, the main coalition party. The position of other coalition members was not so favorable. ANO 2011, which is currently leading in the polls, was the strongest opponent.

The government has not reached any conclusion on the matter. However, the author of the proposal — Interior Minister Milan Chovanec — perceives this as a positive sign. […]

Chovanec claimed that there is only a peripheral link between the amendment and the EU’s Firearms Directive restricting acquisition and possession of weapons. But the explanatory memorandum of the Czech act reads that “the proposal has to be perceived in the context of European Commission’s efforts to limit owners of legal weapons under the pretense of fight against terrorism”. …

Universal Right of Free Men.

Free men are armed, Slaves are not.

"controversial proposal"

All humans have a God given, inalienable right, to keep and bear arms. It's only a "controversial proposal" to oppressive governments and other evil enemies of liberty.

Mexico has it in its Constitution. It has been “interpreted” to mean that Citizens have the right to arms, if they make at least two trips to Mexico city to submit an application and buy a gun at the one and only official gun store.

So much for a Constitutional guarantee with out the cultural will to back it up.

The inhabitants of the United Mexican States are entitled to have arms of any kind in their possession for their protection and legitimate defense, except such as are expressly forbidden by law, or which the nation may reserve for the exclusive use of the army, navy, or national guard; but they may not carry arms within inhabited places without complying with police regulations.
Article 10 of the Mexican constitution. Construed as a “positive” right granted by the government with several caveats, rather than our “negative liberty” format in the Second Amendment (to wit, RKBA “shall never be infringed”, albeit turned into a parchment guarantee by the left in many places).

None like the USA, where it’s a right that “shall never be infringed”, but Mexico, Guatemala and Haiti are the only other countries with constitutions that state a right to keep and bear arms, albeit as a “positive” right (granted by government) and with several restrictions (e.g. Haiti’s chief of police must authorize ownership).

Switzerland has no constitutional guarantee. Their Weapons Act does not allow ownership of machine guns.
