With One Terrific Speech, Donald Trump Becomes President Trump
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 3/1/2017 | Staff

State Of The Union: President Trump's address to Congress and the American people did more than just deliver the usual banal presidential laundry list — it turned a man that many thought lacked the temperament and vision to be president into a real president.

Yes, he repeated his campaign vows to repeal and replace ObamaCare, to lower taxes and make them fairer, to deregulate, to rebuild America's infrastructure, to give parents and their kids school choice, to enforce America's immigration laws, and to strengthen our defenses.

Those are all welcome ideas that will strengthen America for all of its citizens, not just a privileged few.

And there were lines that were also meant to bring a divided America together. Early on, he said:

"Each American generation passes the torch of truth, liberty and justice — in an unbroken chain all the way down to the present. That torch is now in our hands. And we will use it to light up the world. I am here tonight to deliver a message of unity and strength, and it is a message deeply delivered from my heart. A new chapter of American Greatness is now beginning. A new national pride is sweeping across our Nation. And a new surge of optimism is placing impossible dreams firmly within our grasp. What we are witnessing today is the Renewal of the American Spirit. Our allies will find that America is once again ready to lead."

But it went way beyond just rhetoric, and was notably short on policy specifics. It was not a wonkish speech at all.

I’m hoping some folks in the media will stop being stupid and see this event as their opportunity to change the tone, treat him like the President and start reporting the truth rather than partisan BS.

Clearly, many in the media are utterly incapable of such a change. But maybe some will seize the chance to be professional.

Gee — I was at the inauguration and thought he became President Trump at THAT moment. Oh well.

“Gee — I was at the inauguration and thought he became President Trump at THAT moment. Oh well.”

That only applies to democrats. Republicans must walk on water, move mountains and cause the seas to part before they are considered to be presidential. That is a partial list, I have too many things to do before noon to possibly complete the entire list now.

And he exposed (once again) just how small and petty the Democrats are. From wearing KKK white, to sitting on their hands while other applauded to the rush to the exit when the speech was over.

President Trump didn’t get elected last year. Donald Trump did.

From wearing KKK white, to sitting on their hands while other applauded to the rush to the exit when the speech was over.

Their reaction to Trump's speech wasn't much different than Republicans reaction to Obama speech. Though with his infrastructure promises and his child care promises, Trump did give them some expensive government programs to get behind.

Anyone know what the blue buttons were that Dems were wearing?

DWS and Pelosi had them on that I noticed in the few pics I saw. BTW - Pelosi is not looking good health wise. Her face is showing signs of things going wrong in her mind. Alzheimers, dementia, stroke, etc.

Yes it was very different, starting with that stupid stunt of wearing white for some dense reason no one understood. True that the stupid "my side sits while your side gives standing O's" thing is WAY overdone with every one of these speeches, but the Dems last night took that kabuki theater thing to absurd new lengths.

True, Republicans can be just as small and as petty. But then the Democrats and Republicans are really just the Uni-party that only pretend to be against each other as they both get wealthy on the sweat of the middle class.

I think you are being hopelessly optimistic.

In a day, maybe two, there will be no indication this event ever happened.

Shuck Chumer said this morning that no instance of unity could be cited for this president to date. He should have joined maxamine waters in lala land last night.

Terrific speech. Also, no teleprompter and it didn’t look as if the President even bothered to open the notebook on the podium. Did he give this speech from memory?

Right, this speech marks, or should mark, the end of temper tantrum time for the media and the left in general. Last night was a transition.

” wearing white for some dense reason no one understood.”

Someone should start fake news and say it was to show that Democrats stand in solidarity with the KKK.

Maybe she’s sitting there thinking, “I’m responsible for this. I used to be the Speaker of the House.”
