--SNIP-- The hearing, which stretched nearly three hours, came four days before Mayor Kenney will deliver his budget address. He will do so in a starkly more turbulent political climate than the one that faced him for his first budget last year.

The city received more than $340 million in federal grants in fiscal year 2015, much of it targeted by the Trump administration under an executive order to pull funding from so-called sanctuary cities. Up to $638 million more in state funding could dry up if a Senate bill also tied to Philadelphia's policies regarding federal immigration officers becomes law.

What could be worth losing millions of dollars in funding to protect illegals?
The under ground illegal immigration industry and voting power must be a lot bigger than we think. Maybe George Bush can adddress this issue instead of attacking Trump

All their troubles are Trump’s fault? I don’t think that will fly even in a liberal cesspool like Philly

It really is mind boggling. They are advocating breaking the law. You must have come up with the reason why..not much else makes sense.

I don’t see what the problem is; can’t philly just increase their soda tax some more to fund their sanctuariness?

RATs think grants are infinite?
I guessing part of the 340 million grant went to protect
the very people that is going to cost them the grant(s).

Oh, I get it. It's TRUMP'S fault that the Philly is being punished because the city's leadership chooses to violate the law, knowing that there are penalties for doing so.

If ya don't like it, Philly, then you need to sh!tcan your leaders. Otherwise, get stuffed.

They’re looking at losing almost a billion dollars. Ten thousand bucks per illegal they’re harboring? Now that’s how you stand on principle. Unbelievable.

It’s obvious these politicians do not answer to the people of Philadelphia.

I wonder to whom they are actually beholden?

...

I can tell you that illegal aliens are key to a long term strategy by crooked politicians to keep our government as corrupt as possible.

What liberals will never figure out is that once you create a dependency on federal aid, you are at the mercy of the feds.

Yes, I know — the money is confiscated from the states in the first place. However, if the states were truly independent of the feds, then they could tell the feds go pound sand.
